also this story contains the sentence "There is no suggestion that Veronika’s skills are evidence of the evolution of an ominous new species of super-cow," surely an early front-runner for sentence of the year
people are makin cow tools jokes about this and why not, but as a longtime believer in the sentience of non-human animals and great lover of cows in particular, I hope people will check out the story in full

This is absolute madness. Ash was doing an entire team's worth of actual journalism, reporting and investigative stuff at The Verge.

Some site needs to snap her up quickly.
Breaks my heart to share this, but today is my last day at The Verge and I am looking for work! I'd really like to stay in video games, preferably in some kind of journalistic capacity but I can do PR/Marketing and maybe even a lil Narrative Design. Please get in touch!

I'll wait for more research to be done on this, but it wouldn't surprise me. Monster Hunter World STILL has performance issues (bypassed with a mod) because it's running redundant memory integrity tests every frame for errors that would crash the game.

If an error is detected, it crashes the game.
There's this theory that MH Wilds is constantly running DLC checks in the background to see what fancy cosmetic bits you have or not.

That's a weird reason for crap performance, but in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out true. bsky.app/profile/theg...
It really might come down to how many paid cosmetics you own.
