my worst problem with this, that ive had since art school, is that basically no matter *what* task im doing it feels like i'm wasting time. Writing a scene? Could be drawing instead! Programming? Why aren't you writing! Drawing? God forbid you do art instead of fixing bugs. etc etc 😵‍💫

kind of how like there was a huge pushback against "transgendered", and then I saw a research experiment that showed the reason people keep saying that without thinking is probably related to the "ed" ending in adjectives like "blue-eyed", rather than being used as a verb

its so normal! and yet i find it interesting that people keep falling back on this term, and I even see people call themselves "cisman" and "ciswoman"... why would they do that if theyre trying to exclude someone from the umbrella category? there's some kind of grammatical phenomenon there.

when i see ppl immediately jump on the attack without bothering to correct or explain the problem, i can only think ok youre assuming everyone is a native anglophone with the exact same intuitions about language as you. of course thats not judgemental at all 🙄

with my linguist hat on, i find this an interesting distinction because i HAVE seen it used transphobically in the "not in the same category as 'woman'" way, but there's /also/ precedence in the english language itself for words like "englishwoman", "frenchwoman" etc. it's not a hard mistake at all
