Also no one actually wants to think about gender as something imposed on you, as something that constrains and marks you and designates what kinds of labor can/should be extracted from you.

Doesn't help that reminding people about the hierarchy gender places you in is taken as oppressive.
not to like, import discourse from twitter, but this hits the nail on the fucking head what we refer to as "gender" is actually a whole bunch of different things that people keep conflating and any discourse that doesn't detail what aspect we're speaking about is destined to fail

i think that people who use headphones in public places like trains are selfish. keeping all your cool music and podcasts to yourself is genuinely sociopathic and deranged behavior. play it on your phone's speaker and let everyone enjoy it, or don't play it at all

The actual issue is that "AMAB" is not a coherent category and the assumption that there's better or even good research on transfem bodies and health because we're "male" is both incorrect and grossly transmisogynistic, but I know these types don't care about that.

trans women are not 'biological men'. anyone claiming that we are is engaging in science denialism.

it is transphobic to describe us that way. we have changed our physiology using medical science.

it is an attempt by transphobic columnists, pundits, and politicians to erase our existence.

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

I have a new essay coming out next week so stay tuned! since one of the ppl I critique in it is a hardcore "gamete truther", I figured I'd re-up this – discusses both the actual biology & the bonkers anti-trans talking point that's grown out of it (no paywall): juliaserano.medium.com/why-are-gend...

Keep coming back to Summers’ annoyance that this female mentee he’s trying to sleep with “takes her presentation very seriously.” To men like this—to a lot of men—women’s intellectual or professional ambition is an irritating presumption that they condescend to tolerate.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

The funny thing is that I *do* think they are right on some level: acceptance of homosexuality does require equality of gender, flexibility of gender roles, and a recognition that gender and sex are socially constructed. They are just (painfully, obviously) wrong that any of those are a bad thing.
was very confused by this abstract I stumbled upon in a search b/c it clearly uses GC/TERF language & framings, but describes itself in the title as "A Challenge for Gender Critical Feminism". then I realized it's in a Catholic journal & they're likely encouraging GC/TERFs to "drop the GLB" too...

This is the TERF version of some middle aged bloke talking about how the female orgasm doesn't exist because he's never seen one.

Firstly, I am not and never have been "a man".

Secondly, my gash is epic.

I will not be taking questions.
"Medical technology is far from being able to create functional genitals out of other body parts. So it is not possible to construct a penis for a woman, or a vagina for a man." - Sex Matters

This gets me every time. Clearly, y'all have never talked to a trans person about this.

In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

Trans women are biologically female and our medical needs make a lot more sense if we are conceptualized as having essentially an extreme form of hyperandrogenism
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

As a militant feminist, I'm upset about the sexualization of trans women in this comic.
As a trans woman... I laughed.
Good morning. Today I learned about the "trans women" vs "transwomen" distinction in usage. Sorry about that! Here's the fixed version, which I also changed on the main site.

Transphobic parents would rather have a dead kid than a trans one. Esther Ghey can't say that out loud but everything she has said and done since Brianna's death has been about that.
She has a rationale for it as part of her book promo.

Bonus: she's friends with the mom of one the killers.

As a parent, I know the unbearable pain of losing a child - so this is hard to say

But truth matters

Brianna's mother had the opportunity and the moral authority
to stand up for young Trans+ people, in her daughter’s memory

Public evidence suggests she’s chosen not to

It’s deeply upsetting
Esther Ghey is kind of allergic to talking about the transphobic murder of her daughter as a transphobic murder, huh
