I love how the orthodox answer to all policy problems in the English-speaking world is “moar capitalism”
Just got off the indoor trainer. The last couple of sessions have felt surprisingly good, despite (or because?) they were shorter but more intense than usual.

I found out later it was Morrison who suggested this, which, given his connection to churches with sketchy clerics, is hilarious.
So, Bragg has advocated an accreditation system for Imams. Given the historical abuse caused by members of the Catholic clergy, surely if any religious clerics are to be registered and accredited, it would be them first.

It's obviously worth noting that ICE cannot go into a foreign consulate without the consul's permission but people do remember we are talking about a regime that kidnapped a foreign head of state and killed people to do it, right?

I love the update procedure for my apple watch. it is so seamless.
You just have to wait for it to see if there is an update available, if there is download it, wait until it is downloaded

My apple music keeps applying repeat to individual songs without me selecting it. This is going to ruin some algorithms.

it is the same playbook everywhere. “vote for us! we will make you great again by punishing the people you hate! do not pay attention to the fact that we’re also shoveling your money into the pockets of the uber wealthy and building a giant boot to step on your face too (preferably forever)”
The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

Dare to chant "From the River to the Sea" in a crowd of thousands and you make headlines in every newspaper for a week. Meanwhile throw an actual bomb into a crowd on Invasion Day and you're a footnote to a wannabe Nazi using racial slurs.

The "correct" answer is the 3rd option.

You would think that the events on 26 Jan, particularly including the attack on the Invasion Day event in Perth, would spark those with influence to think that antisemitism is not the only dangerous bigotry on the rise in Australia (and elsewhere) and, maybe, look for what might be linking them

Last week, I was wearing a white jersey with fluro sleeves, over that was a bright hi-viz pink vest. My bike had a front light and a back radar light that blinks when it detects a car back. I signalled ostentatiously to take the right hand lane to turn right at an intersection.
The reason why cyclists and pedestrians push back against these types of campaigns is not because we think visibility is bad (I wear hig-viz!), but because it's victim blaming that diverts attention from the real issues: dangerous drivers and poor infrastructure

"We can do both!!!"

OK but we don't; we only do the significantly less effective victim blaming, not changing infrastructure or policy, drivers not having to change or even consider their behaviour one.

Camp sovereignty attacked by neo-Nazis last year.

A bomb thrown at attendees to the Invasion Day rally in Perth yesterday - thankfully didn’t detonate.

Royal commission into bloodthirsty racists? Special envoy? Motions of solidarity in the parliament?

No.

It’s so revealing how the attempted bombing isn’t bigger news in the Australian media cycle. It’s so clear how it matters less if the attacker is white and the intended victims primarily Aboriginal. The hierarchy of racism in Australia is so transparent

Invasion Day 'explosive' device hidden inside Disney Frozen sock, witness says
A homemade "fragment bomb" thrown into a crowd at a Perth Invasion Day rally yesterday was hidden in a child's sock with a Disney character on it, a woman who picked it up tells the ABC.

Going through Port Fairy on the way home yesterday, there were two bakeries from which to choose. We chose the one not flying the massive Australian flag in its window.

It doesn't feel so much like a joke now.

This is a good thread that unpacks a lot of my instinctive 'yeah, nah' about that ON seat prediction
There's polling today that suggests on current numbers One Nation could win 30+ seats. Here's a quick thread of why I think this is *very* unlikely to actually pan out

Now, a federal election probably won't be until early 2028, and a lot could change, but here's why I'm not too worried now
