Mōrena! Magandang umaga. Good morning.

Have a great day everyone! Don’t let the bastards grind you down!!
The levels of rage I’m feeling as a goddam parent & Tangata Tiriti.

This gov & everyone in it are a bunch of vandals. Every curriculum change takes a mountain of work but this one’s a travesty. #NZPol
Is this a done deal? Is this reversible? The poor teachers, the students, our young people 😔
They wanna teach our children racist lies
The Te Tiriti content (which isn't introduced until Year 4) implies the English text was signed in Feb 1840, that the Māori text is a "translation", and that Te Tiriti was primarily a response to the Musket Wars. This is all nonsense.

Another amazing speech from Zohran.

I love his comms & messaging - turning the attacks against him as an offensive against his opponents but also unites and builds solidarity amongst people.

What a leader!
The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

I feel very fortunate to still have such a tight crew. We don’t see each other often with all the juggle, but it’s so grounding when we do catch up.
Been hanging out with good friends this long weekend. Ones I’ve known since I was 13. I’ve been friends with them for decades and it’s amazing to think about.
This is really cool to see 🇵🇭
Another Little Prince book translated to a Philippine language! This time, Kapampangan—the language of the provinces of Pampanga (where I lived as a kid) and Southern Tarlac, and other parts of the Central Luzon.

The translation was done by Oscar Muñoz Balajadia, Jr. aka Paps Osmubal.
A little PSA 📣 Please travel safely on these west coast roads, especially this Labour weekend 🙏🏽

Don’t speed. Don’t overtake stupidly. Pull over safely if you’re holding up traffic.
Yay!!! 🙌🏽 Well done! Well done!! What a feat!!

If your solidarities are with power, whiteness, and wealth then you are no advocate for any marginalised community in the current sociopolitical climate.

Great turn out in Aotea Square for workers standing up against exploitation by this coalition of chaos. #nzpol

This one goes out to educators and health workers
What is it with counsellors asking me if I’ve ever thought of going into politics⁉️ Looking at the racism, misogyny, patriarchy, gerontocracy, egos, infighting, internal politics - it’s a hard no.
Thinking about this artwork today and everyone down south. A friend lives in Canterbury and they’re being battered by the weather as we speak.

Stay safe out there #Oct23Storm

MAKE IT LOUD, AOTEAROA!

Let them know where we stand, it's what Aunty Helen would do if she were here on the #MegaStrike

Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters from many far off lands
There is power in a Union"

Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

The slop is winning.

When I look at this picture/meme, I think that my greatest research skill is presence in stillness: being silent and attentive enough for experience to reveal its own structure.

And what is it about your “best research skill”? #AcademicSky #PhDStudent #research
So happy to hear this news!! This is incredibly well-deserved. Well done 👏🏽
My very elderly mother-in-law’s first ever present to me was a bulb of amaryllis (hippeastrum), which grew like I’ve never seen before in my apartment in SK 🇰🇷 in the middle of winter. Thanks to ondol (underfloor heating)!
Language is blessedly ungovernable.

7 yo: This song is a mix-up.
Me: Do you mean remix?
7 yo: It’s a mix-up! Just go with my rules mum!
Me: ⁉️

I wholeheartedly agree that language is ungovernable. Plus I’m too old to fight for my own pedantry!
I’m usually with the dictionary, but also, eventually it turns into whatever we want it to be. Language is blessedly ungovernable ❤️
Not to be THAT dictionary, but…

It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’
It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’
It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’
It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’
It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'
Haha - that’s cool. I just love the name amaryllis.
