We're half a decade into studies finding that improving airflow in classrooms will reduce disease transmission enormously, and that bleaching surfaces etc. does very little. And yet nothing changes. Waves of flu and colds wash over schools, and the schools pretend it's an act of God.

but also: there are plenty of things that are or should be socially unacceptable that aren't crimes. I think people who talk loudly at the theatre are monsters, but I don't think they should go to prison! the options are not limited to "totally fine" and "jail for mother for one thousand years"!

"either this thing is a crime or you have to be totally fine with it" is such a silly straw man for any number of reasons, not least of which is that as a prison abolitionist, I don't feel like incarceration is a good solution to things I DO think are crimes!
This a pretty tight illustration of the critical flaw in the 1A approach to freedom speech.

Unless it's inherently a massive offense then it must be enshrined, leading to the Overton Window moving and framing that makes enforcement impossible.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

A thing I truly don't understand is why men just can't ever seem to retire. No matter how old and/or rich they are, they gotta keep poking their noses into stuff that's further and further from their area of expertise. And they get mad if you suggest, "Thanks but no thanks, I have experts for that"!

Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

that this is too monstrous for most news organizations to tell the truth about does not change the facts
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
