Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?

one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.

my therapist thinks that my current obsession with books about corporate malfeasance is that they tend to feature legal consequences and subsequent changes to the industry to make things better and safer and honestly yeah, that tracks for how i'm coping

Mitfreude: the joy of sharing a friend’s joy

Vorfreude: the joy of looking forward to future joy
I fiercely believe that shared joy is the best joy.

We all need each other, maybe more than ever.

There isn't a person I know who didn't have a rough 2025 or even a rough few years.

Share joy every chance you get. Send a cute selfie! Share a lovely sunset. Remind people you are thinking of them.

I kicked off Black History Month in Corona at the home of Louis Armstrong, who lived in our city for more than 30 years. Walking through his house and hearing how much New York meant to him was a powerful reminder of what this city owes to Black artists and culture.

He's like a walking talking ninety nine percent invisible episode that came to life and gave a bunch of nerds some neat stuff. And that rules btw
It’s your city, from the sidewalk to the skyline. The David Dinkins Municipal Building’s rooftop is open & free to everyone, starting this June.

no thank you I will not be engaging with an attempted neil gaiman redemption tour
It brings me no joy to report that Ne*l Gaim*n has broken his silence in the dumbest, least effective way possible: by telling his Instagram followers to read Substack posts (written by somebody else) that allegedly prove the allegations are just a "smear campaign"

Oh and he's writing a new novel 🤮

My one piece of advice for fandom and the internet in general is block early and often. Annoyingly pedantic? Block. Weird tone? Block. Can’t tell if it’s a joke? Block. Shitty attitude? Block.

when i was in high school there were 2 pages in every classroom copy of the epic of gilgamesh that were glued shut because in a previous year a boy had found it too erotic and audibly moaned in class and that’s kind of how writing silmarillion erotica feels. i’m moaning during the epic of gilgamesh

The Pitt got greenlit for a season 3, out next February, and the announcement has very funny comment from HBO chairman Casey Bloys that’s like “yeah, turns out if you just make a TV show like how we used to make TV shows you can have a 15+ episode season every year 🤷‍♂️”

It's pretty amazing to me the amount of shit that apparently you can Just Do as an NYC mayor. It makes basically every other American politician look like an incompetent loser.

What do you mean there was just a button that reversed wage theft? Why wasn't and isn't everyone hitting it all the time??
