It's the same story around the world right now. It's hard not to feel hopeless at times.
The super-rich rightwing are pouring money into Reform. Do ordinary voters really think their aim is to even out social inequality and make their lives better? Do they think they’re doing it so Farage invests in infrastructure and public services? Ffs. Democracy being beaten to death in plain sight.

Hey, #BookSky fam! I set a 2025 reading goal of 50 books. I am at 89 (!) and have six books on the go. Now I want to try for 100 by year end.

What are your faves in mystery, fantasy, or Canadian indigenous fiction or non-fiction recommendations? 500 pages or less.

The rest of the world misses America having an actual president, too.

Why does Canada keep inventing weird pizzas? I looked up Windsor pizza due to the post below. Judging by the wiki page pic, @photoplasia.bsky.social nailed it! One question: What is the best way to shred pepperoni?
Okay, two questions: do we have other weird pizzas?

I feel like I stepped away from BlueSky at a critical moment, and now everything is all "wah wah wahwah wah, Charlie Brown," and I don't understand it at all.

Dammit! A seagull's noticed I've been feeding the crows. It's sat outside my window waiting for peanuts and biscuits I made for the crows. So, now, instead of a peaceful Sunday afternoon of reading, I've got to be the crazy person yelling out of the window at the seagull in my yard.

I think both.
Letting a Russian-written plan circulate as U.S. policy for three days only makes sense if the admin was either completely incompetent or quietly going along with it until the backlash hit. I think the latter.

I think I'm going to steer clear of the news for a few days and focus on books. I've been feeling pretty ragey today, and I don't care for it. I'm currently reading four books, and I hope to finish at least two of them this weekend in between test batches of new cookie recipes for Christmas sharing.

I remember living a simple good life in the 90s, going to work, attending university, learning about the world and thinking how I would have loved to live in interesting times. I take it back. I take it all back. 1/

There have always been two sets of laws. It's just not hidden anymore.
If I call publicly for the president to be hanged, I get a visit from the FBI.

If the president does it, it’s OK. If his supporters call for the VP they just voted for, they get pardoned.

Two sets of laws.

Google removes a variety of longstanding GMail features if you try to withdraw your default consent (!) to having all your content read and used by Google Gemini via "Smart Features." That's an obvious attempt to coerce consent for privacy violations. Legislatures must act to make this illegal.

But no one will do anything because Americans prefer to be commentators and spectators rather than participants or players in democracy. Americans will call Trump a Nazi, then go home to watch Surviver or Real Housewives or some shit instead of doing anything useful to remove the Nazi from the WH.
Meiselas: This guy's a con artist. He's a fraud. He's quite literally a criminal. A felon. He lies. He destroys people's lives. He's a rug puller. 'Look, $23 trillion! Dividend checks are right around the corner! I'm gonna make you so rich!'

It is demented and it is manipulative and it is abusive.
November 21, 2025 at 12:53 PM
It will get worse because American citizens are completely fine with their own complicity. There are millions of non-Americans worldwide who have done more to fight Trump than almost every single American has because most Americans are doing exactly nothing useful. 240M US adults not doing shit.
Trump now says that to rebel against the authority of the state is a DEATH PENALTY offense. And who determines rebellion? Why he does of course. Can it get any worse?
Of course it can.
November 21, 2025 at 12:41 PM
It doesn't matter because Americans are comfortable in their complicity. Even those in the military. If they weren't cowards, they would have already disobeyed orders, but a bunch of dead fishermen are proof that they don't care about their oath more than they care about doing what's easier.
Disobeying illegal orders cannot be sedition. The Uniform Code of Military Justice, article 92, requires service members to follow LAWFUL orders. If an order is illegal, they have a duty to DISOBEY. Obeying an illegal order can result in criminal liability.
November 21, 2025 at 12:28 PM
And again, this was not enough for Americans to rise up. He murders people on fishing boats, he takes food and medical care from citizens, he invites a murderer to the White House, and Americans do not rise up. The average American is complicit in all of this. 240M US adults doing nothing.

It's always hard to pick a worst day politically, but today the president called for the death of members of the opposition party, and the administration decided that people were being too hard on the swastika
