Synthesizers and film cameras.
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

People shocked at "wine moms" protesting simply do not understand the passage of time. The wine-moms of 2026 are the anti-war protestors of 2003.
Wine moms have been right since 2016 but some people have unresolved parent issues and won’t forgive them for wearing cringe hats
we've got some ICE shit going down in our little town today and it took like three minutes for a convoy of wine moms to start chasing them around town. normies hate this shit and are putting in the work

My other takeaway is that what makes Tokyo so picturesque and livable is the fact that there’s no on-street parking. It’s really that simple.

e-bikes are no kidding good for national security bsky.app/profile/cost...
Very sincerely, every bit of travel we do in an EV, on a train, on a bus, on a bike/e-bike, by walking or rolling, or by other active transport, helps the climate, helps air quality, and helps national & economic security. We should fund these as national security infrastructure.

I got hooked on the Alan Moore stuff (And went back and listened to the Canticle for Liebowitz episodes) and cannot wait for this Tolkien deep dive.
Now is the time to get on board the Shelved by Genre train! We've got a few of these recorded already and let me tell you, they're good as hell
With a knock on your door, a kindly wizard invites you to join us on Shelved By Genre's LORD OF THE YEAR, in which we will consider the popular but contested works of JRR Tolkien, kicking things off with a long rumination upon the first four chapters of THE HOBBIT: rangedtouch.com/2026/01/02/t...

I didn't know about the Shaker exhibit at the ICA and I live a mile away. This is fantastic!
If this Ann Lee movie spurs more Shaker aesthetic appreciation, I recommend a) Hancock Shaker Village https:// hancockshakervillage.org b) Canterbury Shaker Village www.shakers.org c) Shaker exhibit opening in Philly Jan 31 icaphila.org/exhibitions/...

My bad hot take is that not the creation of deepfakes should both be illegal (and frequently prosecuted) and that liability should extend to the creators of the software.
It takes the likeness of a real person and manipulates it to create sexually explicit material without their consent.

There is a victim here.

the water thing about genAI is bullshit but the thing where it makes on-demand nudes and CSAM isn't and the thing where it talks you into killing yourself isn't and those seem pretty bad

Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

This is part of why I not only subscribe to my local paper, but also still get a hard copy delivered.
"The newspaper industry served as a feeder for our entire news media ecosystem. So when we lose those newspapers, we've lost that journalism. In the early 2000s, we had 40 journalists per 100,000 people. We're now down to 8 journalists per 100,000 people," says @victorpickard.bsky.social.

When I was on CNN's northeast desk, the first job at 6a every morning was to read the local papers. That guided some of what the massive CNN machine followed every day.

When those papers die, CNN doesn't hire new regional reporters. What you get instead is more panel shows, more punditry.

Lancaster Ave has an inherently dangerous design for an urban setting: wide lanes with an unprotected bike lane often being used as a shoulder. This type of design promotes speeding and makes the corridor unsafe for everybody.

Every of these is a recurring stress dream I have.
In its complaint against D.C., DOJ voting lawyer Brittany Bennett — who was previously involved in a lawsuit seeking to ban Dominion voting machines in Georgia — appears to have accidentally left annotation comments on the filing.

I’m convinced the stress and constant annoyance of living in an economy where every corporation is constantly trying to screw you over is a big part of why people are unhappy with the economy, the government and status quo in general.
