Very honored to have received the Fofonoff award, joining lots of scientists who I admire.

This is really a recognition of the fantastic people I've had the opportunity to work with. Some are on here and you should follow them! @ogonori.bsky.social @breakingniws.bsky.social @zchen43.bsky.social

Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

The red dot is a baby North Atlantic right whale trying to migrate up the east coast of the United states.

The blue streaks are fast moving shipping vessels entering and leaving New York City harbor.

One collision and the whale is dead.

We need *mandatory* speed limits for these vessels! 🧪🦑🌍

Also important here as noted is the restriction to not cut overhead rates (for some agencies that includes NSF).

Wow, why have I never heard of the Ben Franklin mesoscaphe? Like human argo floats, 6 men descended to ∼600m and drifted submerged in the Gulf Stream for 30 days. Along the drift, the crew mapped seafloor properties, biology, noises, and acted as a human occupied CTD analyzing the water column.

At an @agu.org Town Hall today, @ncar-ucar.bsky.social President Antonio Busalacchi spoke to #AGU25 attendees about what's at stake if NCAR is dismantled.

One attendee asked anyone who uses NCAR research to stand up. Almost everyone in the room stood.

It’s simply not possible to overstate how important NCAR is to US and world science. We need to fight this with everything we’ve got.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges.

But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.
