The Pope from Chicago would definitely approve.

"Mass deportations now" meets "Starting on day one we will lower inflation."

Don't hold back, Clara. Tell me what you really think.

The very first report on AIDS was in MMWR.

A Chicago councilwoman referred to Kristi Noem the other day as "the renowned puppy killer." That works for me.

Before you say the journalist should sue, I have two words for your: "Qualified immunity." I mean, how could the ICE guys know if a court has ruled that it's illegal to hogtie a journalist because she's doing her job? And if no court has ever ruled *exactly* that, they're probably home free.

True. And not just in the general election. At the start of 2016, most of the "smart" people thought Trump was a joke. Jeb! was the GOP nominee in waiting.

For a moment I thought you meant Livia Soprano.

So he will stop spending congressionally appropriated funds. Breaking the law. And GOP congress critters will, as usual, do nothing as he stomps on their most important power to say nothing of hurting their constituents.

For every bad editor I had in my long career, I've had four good ones who improved my work and one truly great editor who did things for me (and the readers) I could only have dreamed of accomplishing alone.

I call it a tax on people who can't do math.

A respectful dissent: The Republicans believe they can hold onto power for years to come. Even if they lose the House in 2026, they can resist oversight. And if Dems take the White House in 2028, well, the USA has never been good at retribution. Just ask the Confederacy.

Under current law, we'll have to wait until 2092 when the complete records of the 2020 census become public. Unless, of course, Tommy fesses up.

And don't forget (acting) FBI Director L. Patrick Gray. He who was left "twisting slowly, slowly in the wind" during Watergate.

They believe they're in to stay. That's the real purpose of the gerrymanders in TX, MO, and elsewhere - to prevent the Dems from taking the House in the midterms and set up a sweep in 2028. Then they can appoint a 7th or even an 8th justice in 2029. Permanent control.

Little known fact: Louis XIV built Versailles because he needed more closet space.

Worse than that. The king can take the princes' soldiers and send them to other princes' domains whenever he likes. Portland is burning! (No, it's not.) Send soldiers from California and Texas right now! Never mind that Prince Gavin of California refuses. (Prince Greg of Texas says ye-hah.)

SCOTUS said Trump can get away with crimes. With his executive orders on tariffs, birthright citizenship and now on burning the flag, soon we'll get to see if the Court lets him make laws too. "A republic if you can keep it."

The sad truth is that most presidents occasionally have violated the Constitution that they all swore to uphold. But Trump does so openly, even gleefully.

Yeah, and she was then accepted into Cambridge's doctoral program. I think she was the first (and maybe the only) person to earn a Ph.D. from Cambridge without getting a bachelor's degree.

Chunk wins Fat Bear Week, and right away the government shuts down. A coincidence? I think not. Hundreds of salmon died for this.

So before Comey's attorney -- a heavyweight former US Attorney who convicted two Illinois governors -- even gets to the merits of the indictment, he could bring an Alina Habba-type challenge against Lindsey Halligan and say she had no authority to bring an indictment? And then the statute runs?
