Here is the impeachment against Andrew Johnson. It literally just says "Resolved, That Andrew Johnson, President of the United States, be impeached of high crimes and misdemeanors"

This is, in fact, the way
I’m becoming socially conservative in that I’m becoming a real tightass about civic virtue & honor. Fuck your boyfriend & his husband wearing dogsuits in private if you want, I don’t care at all, but I’m becoming pretty humorless about people feeling they have no obligation to any civic project

Ok so if I weren't an atheist, I would say God spared him from that bullet and allowed him to rule over us for a year and a day in order to punish us for our hubris and teach us to love each other or some shit

God it would be so insanely funny if after all this it turns out anyone could have stopped him this time around with like three days of sustained opposition to wear out his battered cardiovascular system and the Europeans were somehow the first to try it.

Okay, the 'minor electrical issue' might actually be in his heart and/or brain.

My god, if he actually dies due to being apoplectically angry that the Europeans finally quit indulging his insane fantasies, that would be...well, about as weird as weird, fucked up history often is.

“may your grandkids race to change their names” is actually an incredible curse we should all start adding to our repertoire

it’s gonna be true of a lot of these people
This will end eventually

I just want to be sure that every Republican member of Congress is prominently named in the history of who destroyed American democracy, NATO and the West. They're worse than Benedict Arnold. They sold more than West Point. Their grandkids will race to change their names

Absolutely no one here is saying don’t vote. If you don’t vote you’re a fool. But Democrats need new leaders so that their voters do not feel they’re been stranded on an island.
So sick of this. It doesn’t matter how you vote if you spend every day convincing other people that voting isn’t worth it because both sides suck.

That is the takeaway from platforms like this one, whether it’s your intention or not.

I feel like we, the people of Bluesky, are all feeling the contradiction of being smart enough to recognize the tremendously significant things happening in the world and also horrified at the likely outcomes of those things

A strange form of personal union where the Commonwealth ends up united by a single sovereign who just happens to have the same PM in each of his countries.

Honestly, it would at least be, historically speaking, extremely funny.
is there a law against mark carney becoming British PM
not to lib out but if anybody in labour made a speech that demonstrated even 70% of the understanding of what’s happening and, importantly, the willingness to explain what’s happening as that mark carney one, they should obvs just coronate them leader now and save everybody the faff

It's the FUCKING FLOOR. If you're not in the 77% welp then maybe you should do some soul searching. Same goes for your representatives. Maybe they should represent the people? I dunno. Seems like it's the job.

The period at the end of the phrase "we reverse" in Trump v. Anderson rolled right off that page

And over the course of about 22 months, it worked its way into a box of bullets, into the magazine of Jon Ross' sidearm, through the brain of Renee Good, and into the heart of her 6-year old boy
This decision killed Renee Good
every time I read this, I get apocalyptically apoplectic about how clear it is. it is instant. it does not require explicit congressional action to invoke, it instead only requires that to remove.

donald trump is not the current president right now, according to the constitution.
