The idea that humans sit atop an evolutionary hierarchy dates back to 1866, when a scientist drew the first tree of life with "Man" at the top.

This inaccurate view still shapes how we think of the animal world, despite decades of genomic evidence proving evolution has no hierarchy.

No animal alive today is ‘primitive’ – why are so many still labeled that way?
All species alive today, from chimpanzees to bacteria, are cousins that each have equally long lineages, rather than ancestors or descendants of one another.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous

happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.

New — I spoke to eight people who were present at the ICE protest on Saturday in Portland, Oregon when federal agents deployed tear gas and rubber bullets into a crowd of families, children, elderly and disabled people, and their pets.

These are their stories:

i think the thing i wish was easier to communicate to people who are only getting this through national media is that for every big horrible story there are thousands of these smaller ones that just don’t get out there. the day to day of it is excruciating
Woman with legal status taken from her family home in St Paul by ICE, flown to Texas, held for two weeks before being ordered released by a judge. She lost her job. She's afraid to go outside because agents keep coming to her home.

People all over Portland, Oregon were impacted by the chemical warfare deployed by the feds tonight. Here’s a thread of some Portlanders experiences who weren’t even at the protest:
Lots and lots of teargas and various other munitions. People yelling for medics. Ambulance came for one person already and there was a brutal arrest amidst all of this

The issue here isn't new recruits. These are longstanding agents shooting civilians on the street. Here's @vermontgmg.bsky.social on abuses at ICE and especially CBP: the US sees more crimes PER CAPITA - that is, per US resident - from these immigration officers than from all illegal immigrants. 5/
Accountability for ICE and CBP
However bad you think the corruption and misconduct at ICE and CBP is — the reality is far far worse.

“The everyday anarchism of the Minneapolis revolution is its greatest strength.

To the extent that we allow top-down forces to take control of the movement, we will compromise its structural integrity and set ourselves up to lose. With so much on the line, we can’t afford to let that happen.”

Some in South Minneapolis have created what they call “filter blockades” on Cedar Ave. A handout says the roundabout like blockade is meant to bring neighbors together to strategize against ICE while also identifying traffic coming into the area.

I don't like to talk about stories before they are fully reported, but I am writing on ICE in a Minnesota town that isn't Minneapolis. However bad you think it is, it is worse. It is a campaign of pure terror whose only strategic goal is more terror. There is no strategy other than to break people.

Minneapolis is trying out new forms of resistance. They're doing pop-up blockade block parties. This one is on Cedar and 34th, a main route into the city. They have a stereo, food & a fire. MPD is present but not interfering. Lots of honks of support. ICE agents have been reported detouring around.
