In Philip K Dick's short story "Faith of our fathers" an illegal anti-hallucinogen allows you to see the country's leader is actually horrifying biomechanical monstrosity & this is a pretty good metaphor for living in Lower Hutt & hearing people fawn over Chris Bishop.

Judith Collins calling open fascist Kristi Noem a friend and posing for photo ops with her would have her hounded out of politics in any reasonable democracy - and a functioning, non-propagandistic media would lead that charge

Unfortunately we have neither of those things in NZ
Out of curiosity I checked and the disambiguation page for "Labour Party" on Wikipedia has ~650 entries from around the world, so maybe they should have, you know, checked the context and not acted like a pillock
Sad to hear about Jane Goodall, I heard her speak at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington once and her stories about chimps and humans were so moving, I started to tear up. She will be greatly missed

My friend left her phone in an #uber last night. It is ABSURD that you need your phone to organise retrieving the phone you lost. Surely cellphones are the #1 thing left behind? Just absolutely terrible design

In 1976, African nations boycotted the Montreal Olympics because New Zealand stood with apartheid South Africa. Nearly 50 years on, that echo lingers and the stain remains far longer than we care to admit to ourselves.

I just found out that in Lethal Weapon, when Danny Glover says, "I'm too old for this shit" he was, in fact, younger than I am now. And you know what? He was right.

So Ruth Richardson & Roger Douglas want Nicola Willis to adopt the Liz Truss libertarian playbook, even though its failed. everywhere
And Douglas wants David Seymour to take her place.
What could go wrong with the Atlas Network (NZI/TPU) formula? A lot - as every country they touch knows #nzpol

Look I don't know how deep the psychosis in the cult that follows National goes, but you literally can not have a growing economy for 6 months when the stats show it's been declining.

They wear sunscreen at night & moan they can't hear the TV when they've hit the mute button don't they.
Nicola Willis incorrectly claims economy has been growing well for the last 6 months & blames unimplemented tariffs for the monstrous ~1% GDP drop.
The statistics prove Ms Willis a liar. And of note, Treasury had forecast positive growth, and zero recession as at Nov 2023 #nzpol

One thing I'll say about DC not only canceling Red Hood, but recalling the first issue and refunding stores for buying it, is that you can still get Neil Gaiman's work through them. They still work with Otto Schmidt. Eddie Berganza worked there for years AFTER the formation of a policy that no women

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

Looking forward to strong commentary from David Seymour and Winston Peters on the difference between free speech & violence and the need to protect democracy regarding the resignation of an MP who received death threats following politically motivated targeting amplified by members of the NZ Govt.🦗

From me, a list of Trump supporters who killed, or tried to kill, Democrats and opponents of Trump in recent years (since the right are now claiming all the political violence is from the left!)
