This is an unequivocally good and proper development. Not enough for sure, but it is good and we should acknowledge that.
Donald Trump must fire Kristi Noem immediately.

Or Democrats will initiate impeachment proceedings against her in the House.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

"We can't lose Minneapolis because if we do, we lose Chicago and Los Angeles," an administration adviser said.

"We're not going to let the people who lost the presidential election over immigration dictate to us on immigration," the official said, referring to Democrats.

Also, to be clear, we are very fortunate that the country opposed using lethal force against US citizens, and that Trump backed down rather than push ahead with Miller's accelerationist speedrun to civil war.

Neither is guaranteed to last, but the past week shows where and how to hold the line.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.

Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction

It can be done.

Read the whole thread, but this is a a key point. People who voted for this, and continue to vote for this, cannot be allowed to absolve themselves of their responsibility for that support.
13/ If an American opposes what ICE is doing but not enough to vote in the primaries or general against a candidate who cheerleads for it then whether it's fair to say "this is not who we are" it's definitely fair to point out that "this is who we are willing to be".

Exhaustive thread analyzing the killing of Alex Pretti. Obvious content warnings.
Federal law enforcement agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Jan. 24 according to local police officials. DHS told Fox News that the man was “armed with a gun”. A video of the shooting appears to show that a gun was taken from the man before the first shot was fired. x.com/BillMelugin_...

The second Dems get power back. It can’t wait. We can’t Gerald Ford this again. And we know, from both Obama and Biden, that good policy on issue X doesn’t fix the authoritarian problem. The platform must be institutional reform:
- DC/PR/USVI statehood
- Enlarging the House
- MMDs
- New VRA
- Totally revamping SCOTUS: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Automatic universal voter registration
- Rewriting the "national emergency" laws: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Subordinating the Senate: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Etc.
👇🎯💯

Again, the needs to be & all the committees & commissions that want to Do A Popularism & focus on Kitchen Table Issues are engaged in a category mistake about What Democrats Must Do the next time they ever have power.

Thought provoking thread about the pending collapse of the liberal-democratic order, but this point is the interesting part for me. The implication is that technology shifts, or our responses to them, have more or less dictated the authoritarian turn. A lot of potential explanatory power in there.
Everyone wants to blame the content: misinformation, bots, polarisation. That mistakes catalysts and symptoms for the underlying causes. The crisis isn’t bad information, it's that the very information infrastructure we relied on to create a shared understand of the world had changed completely.

You got it: deflation is the process of nominal prices of goods and services going down over time. Intuitively it might seem good: things get cheaper for consumers, hooray! In actuality this is one of the worst possible things that can happen to an economy. It's "people will starve to death" bad 1/x
Would love an explainer!

Yo, Philly journalist here. Literally the only sourcing on this is tweets from well-meaning left-leaning folks who’d be the LAST people on earth to have inside info from ICE

Not a serious article www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...
ICE is rumored to be heading for Philadelphia. Everyone is saying the same thing
‘Philly people are a different breed,’ wrote one user, while another added: ‘Bro ice is going to be protesting’

This rules out the "it really was a minor electrical issue with the airplane," yeah? If he were okay, if he were ambulatory, they'd make a whole entire point of showing that fact off
Pool report timed 11:53pm:

“Pool didn’t see POTUS board replacement AF1, which is the smaller aircraft (757). Sending now as cell coverage poor inside this plane. We will be wheels up for Zurich at some point soon.”

Immigration officers are caught on video violating policy, training, and settled law pretty much every day. The administration just cheers them on. What makes anyone think they're going to implement any of these "guardrails?" They think de-escalation is woke.

This is just giving them more money.
Other aspects:
-de-escalation training for ICE and CBP officers
-training all law officers and agents, on Americans’ right to record any interactions.
-Provides line-item funding ($20 million) for mandated, independent oversight of detention facilities

What would be the legal authority for this? Presuming there is any.

@asgvisalaw.bsky.social?
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

A big theme of constitutional observer training, something so many people in Minnesota have done and are now actively in the streets doing, is you cannot stop people from getting disappeared. But your presence shows solidarity with the victim and that we must bear witness to what our gov’t is doing.
