Yeah I love restraint; you get a lot more impact from managing a tight economy of language, letting implications stretch. really building up to a nice fluid metaphor that caps things off.

You gotta extend that compassion to yourself, friend. From where i'm sitting, you've kept as light as reasonably possible given the circumstances. You draw lines where you have to and I can practically feel it when you rein in the impulse to be hurtful. But of course, you know yourself best.

I'd believe it. I imagine that's something a lot of people deal with somewhere in transition, and I've seen lesbians express a similar sentiment around the fear of seeming predatory. The ambient trauma field is fucking awful.

Also the original post is tongue-in-cheek half my pay would buy a terminal quantity of beer and these days I drink sensibly while hanging out with perverts. I'm doing ok when work isn't grinding me down or I'm filled with impotent rage at the ways other people suffer.

I'd been mutuals with him for like a year before I saw him at his worst, because I'm not on here all the time. He was being racist about Benjanun so that was enough, but people also showed receipts for the rest of it and I was like... ok well maybe he and I are not so similar as I thought.
