@tomcanton.bsky.social A brilliant & very interesting pod/video this morning highlighting the disparity between Arsenal & C115ty gross spend & wages. I urge everyone to give it a listen. I kept having to rewind in shock with the figures. Now off to read his article on Football London. #Arsenak

Didn't have a lot of interest in football until I was about 8 during the 92/93 season. My elder cousins were still in North London at the time and when I did decide on a team, naturally I chose the family club. My best mate at the time was Arsenal, as well.

It was meant to be.

"Boring boring Arsenal" is just as much a part of the club's history as the beautiful football played by Wenger.

Just own it. And sing it when we batter some team 5-0, because it will happen. That's my kind of boring.

Mine's not very interesting. My dad was a Gooner and I inherited it from him.
Lived many years in various parts of North London, and had a season ticket for a good few.

Grew up just off Blackstock Road. the '78,'79,'80 cup finals were just a mass of red & white bunting all over the area

So funny
So: Man City have to travel two hours down to Wembley, the referees don’t want them to win, they have too many injuries and now the rules (despite being very clear) don’t suit them - anything else?
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City intends to write to the English Football League to request a rule change so that Marc Guehi is available for the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.

Wish I had a cool story. Grew up in the US before football was big there. Visited my brother (Liverpool fan) in London 10yrs ago. He lived near Emirates & I needed something to do 1 night so walked there. "Guess I'm an Arsenal fan now." Took a few years & a friend to really watch though. Slow burn.

My sister and I got hooked to the game during WC 2002, started watching PL with a Man Utd fan friend, until that draw with Arsenal a few months into the new year. There was just *something* about them, which I was obviously too new to football to be able to vocalise, but it was enough to pull us in.

I went to a Catholic primary school in south London in the 1970s. Although there were a lot of kids there who supported Liverpool 🙄, a lot of my 2nd gen Irish mates supported Arsenal. I wisely sided with the latter group 👊🏾

I was an American going to summer school in Ireland in 1996. My best friend was a huge Arsenal fan so I became one too. Bergkamp, Adams, Wright, Seaman…Arsene arriving. Stuck with the Gunners ever since.

Went on school trip to London when I was 15 (Spring of 2001). As a rural American in basically the 90s, there was no way to watch or really be aware of English football. A street vendor sold me a scarf I liked because of the cannons.

That's it.

Wore it when I finally went to my 1st match in 2023.

Grew up playing soccer in USA, but TV coverage was focused on other sports. I watched a ton of baseball, NYY. In late 2000s YES network featured Arsenal in off-season programming, showing BTS, CL and PL games. Fell in love with Fabregas and Wenger ball. I belonged
I think it would be a cool thread of everyone telling their story on how they became an Arsenal fan.

As a kid, I sort of supported United because Gary Bailey played for them. When they started to win, it didn't feel right. 16 years ago I read Fever Pitch & have never looked back. #COYG

Watching the 71 cup final on Norwegian tv, Charlie scores the winner. That was the moment! Since then I was lucky having dinner with him and the captain Frank M. Must be 10 years ago now.

My family are split down the middle, Spuds and Gooners. On Xmas day 1990, my Uncle and Grandad on the Arsenal side took the bull by the horns and bought me all the kits (including GK), and a Boxing Day ticket to watch us play Derby at home. 3-0, 2 for Smith one for Merse. Never looked back.

Canada, early 90s, an absolute desert for the game. Got occasional highlights on TransWorld Sport. Saw Wrighty bang one in. That was it.

Then it was getting the scores a week late from the Times when it hit the library. Watching every game I could of WC94 and seeing Bergkamp...

We were not a football family but my daughter had a sixth form friend who followed the Arsenal and somehow I caught it from her. I was nearly 50 - and just in time for the Invincibles - and honestly it's a fine obsession for an old woman.

In 1995, Denis Bergkamp joined Arsenal.
He was my favourite player, the most elegant footballer ever, so Arsenal became the club I supported.

For my friend in Belgium I supported Anderlecht as it was the best way to piss off any Standard fan 😂

I was a moody teenager in Croatia who despised football cause "it got too much screen time". One night, my dad refused to change the channel during the Champions League, I refused to cave and leave, so I saw Cesc Fabregas score against Juventus, and here I am 20 years later, no regrets
