Hello new followers 👋

I like cycling and often cycle on a cargo bike or a tandem with 2 kids in tow. I also like shouting about riding bikes & trikes #kidicalmass and campaigning for other people to be able to cycle too.

I also write about family cycling at Cycle Sprog www.cyclesprog.co.uk
This is not how to lock your bike

Also, this lock can be cut with secateurs probably...

The submission for a cargo bike emoji wasn't successful 😭

We'll have to stick with this 🚲📦 for now...

The current range of emojis for cycles/cycling do not represent me and how I get around at all:
🚲🚵🚴🚳

In comparison:
🚗🚘🚙🚔🚓🚕🏎️🛣️

#motonormativity anyone? @ianwalker.bsky.social
Arrgghh... Gutted to say the least.

Sorry to announce that submission #2 for #CargoBikeEmoji was unsuccessful 😔

No feedback provided from Unicode.

If current guidelines stand, will be 4 yrs before a 3rd time lucky proposal in 2029. This would be a great way to finish the #DecadeOfTheCargoBike

Being a car-free family with two kids has been very doable for us. This has helped:
- make transport a factor in important decisions (nursery, school, clubs, work, etc)
- own good waterproofs
- ask people for lifts (to A&E and birthday parties out of town)

Fun Fact:
Cars have NEVER been perfect.
They cost society human lives, health, billions in subsidies every year, prevent resilience and encounters...

But any alternative to them MUST, in Car Brains' view, be EVEN more perfect than a car.

A couple of weeks left to find out on emoji submissions and if #CargoBikeEmoji has made it through.

(Quietly optimistic but grounded in that there are a LOT of proposals each year and Unicode has strict guidelines)

Active transport is for everyone regardless of who you are. It angers us so much as green activists that promoting active travel should *only* earn you an award if you identify with your gender assigned at birth.

Trans women are women, and @cyclinguk.bsky.social needs to do better.

It is 2025 - we really shouldn't need a petition for this!

Require schools to let children use the toilet at all times in the school day.

This petition is going viral on other platforms.

Let's share and allow our children human rights.

Petition: Require schools to let children use the toilet at all times in the school day
Make it mandatory for schools to allow students to go to the toilet at all times throughout the school day when they need to and do not lock toilets so that they aren’t accessible during certain times...

This is utterly awful.

Transphobia in plain sight along with a grim (mis)interpretation of the meaning of the Supreme Court ruling in For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers.

Recognising women’s contribution to cycling should be inclusive not based on essentialist biological sex.

Women are hugely underrepresented in cycling at all levels. There are lots of reasons for this. It’s kinda complicated.

I know many people who’ve worked for years to make cycling safer and more accessible for all women.

Excluding a minority achieves nothing except further emboldening bigots.
We can’t have anything nice 😣

Cycling Weekly posted about this on their FB page and the comments are almost universally a smorgasbord of all the transphobic greatest hits.

Cycling has been a huge part of my life for 35 years.

I feel sick to my stomach.
