I’m glad to see this debate out in the open. You don’t arrive at the views held by Richerson and others by reading your Bible. You arrive at these views by mainlining the administration’s propaganda. These pastors are lost and you should avoid their churches.

@peterbakernyt.bsky.social refuses to invoke any idea of competitive authoritarianism here though experts on democratic governance have done so. Why is he desperate to dance around what is happening with equivocation, euphemism and evasion?
NYT’s Baker writes: “Actions that once shocked the system can eventually become seen as normal.” Yet NYT is part of that normalization process.
Will the news media ever pull the fire alarm? Or will they keep betraying their duty because of the 3 C’s: cowardice, cluelessness and complicity? 4/4

I've always wanted to get a picture of the sun setting directly above a sanderling

I could never land it

It's a complex shot since the sun sets above the ocean and the birds are BELOW the crashing waves

Even if you get it, you need to get multiple shots for depth of field

I came close tonight🪶 🧵

Wildly illegal, unconstitutional, & criminal. In any functioning democracy, ministers would have been forced to resign, the PM would have been thrown out, & people would have gone to jail for a long time. No one involved had any legal authority to do any of this.
"Shelley Bain, a 66-year-old program specialist, checked her email and saw she’d been fired at 4:30 a.m. She made a cup of coffee and calculated. She was losing half the retirement income she’d counted on. She is legally blind, so it would be hard to find another job."

Representatives of the British military mission in the USSR first got to examine a KV-1 tank #OTD in 1941. Puzzlingly, it was classified as a medium tank, even though it weighed nearly ten tons more than the heaviest tank produced in the UK at the time. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

Serious question/suggestion. The press (and normal people) refer to billionaire allies of Russia’s corrupt autocratic president as oligarchs. Shouldn’t the U.S. press call the politically influential billionaire media allies of the would-be autocratic U.S. president—Musk, Bezos, Ellison—oligarchs?

I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Anyone claiming that undoing the fascist regimes work at all levels no matter how small is not a worthy cause cannot be allowed to hold power for the foreseeable future.
There's a series of things (like the ballroom, Gulf of America) that we're going to have to *undo* the moment this guy is out of office.
And yet I can already hear future Democrat presidents saying "I'm focused on the people's work, not the knucklehead stuff" and just leave this man's shit up.

HUGE NEWS from the new Epstein files:

Records show that Maria Farmer, who worked for Epstein, filed a "child pornography" report to the FBI in 1996.

The FBI has never before acknowledged that complaint. The case went nowhere, and mass abuse followed.
