I see things like this being stated as common in #TTRPG and sometimes wonder if like....I just luck out with entirely different games/people? But lets address things that might be at issue more broadly than the story itself (though I'll hit that to). Threadtime! 1/?

A common refrain I see in TTRPG spaces is, “Why aren’t my players taking the setting and characters and plot hooks I made for them seriously? They prefer to make jokes!”

And I’m like… you have to give players a reason to care, not just things to care about.

Working on the SSC arc of Act 2. #InGoldenFlame
Harris has obtained help from an unusual source: Striga Von Aldenberg. Although Striga isn’t usually one to trust celebrities (too many of them have been replaced with reverse-werewolves, she says), she finds Harris unusually charming – and in any case, she’d never pass up a chance to raid SSC’s servers. To this end, she has dispatched two of The Truth’s most trusted sigdivers, Blaine “V01dS3kt0r” Kudros and Linn “include[null]” Malmkvist, to assist Harris. They are currently hiding amongst the Icebreaker’s refugee population, and will only emerge once the PCs and Harris have reached the station. Kudros and Malmkvist are surprisingly lucid and comprehensible (for members of The Truth, at least), and explain in a reasonably straightforward manner what they need.

Now more than ever
THERE IS NO “DEFAULT” PERSON A note to GMs on representation: there’s an unfortunate tendency in written media for an audience to assume that a character is white if there isn’t a stated skin color, straight if there isn’t a stated sexuality, cis if they’re not stated to be trans, and so on. But Calliope is a diverse place, so keep in mind that even if it's not stated, a character’s sexuality, gender, ability, neurotype and skin color can be broader than cis, male, able, neurotypical and white. This book is written with that idea in mind. This is important to state plainly. Part of making fictional worlds enjoyable for your audience is ensuring they’re able to see people like themselves represented within them. A story doesn’t have to be about diversity for diversity to be important.
