That’s both heartening and kinda scary.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

When gleefully buying new, beautiful matched sets of my favourite books (behaviour which I'm sure the authors themselves approve of!), I never stopped to think about the fact that I have limited shelf space. Where do the old beloved, raggedy, stained versions of my books go? Book heaven? #booksky

Too true!! It takes more effort to hunt them down elsewhere but worth it!
If you're boycotting indie ebooks on Amazon and *not* seeking them out elsewhere, you are not actually helping the movement for readers to divest.

OMG. Counting down 48 hours until @nicolaz.bsky.social re-release of the Aud Torvingen series released in Australia! Pre-ordered since May. Finally a lovely matching set. Good timing too, the cover just fell off my well-read copy of The Blue Place I’ve owned forever.
