But then again, even those characters were pretty thin now that I think about it.
It’s been a while since I’ve read it (and I’m overdue for rereading it because it’s the one Clancy novel I enjoy), I always thought the Air Force weatherman in Iceland and the (one competent) Soviet General were developed. Or at had the most attention put into them.

We all need to channel this Chicago man’s utter contempt
Here's a short video of an Edison Park man confronting border patrol. You can hear others in the background. #chicago

If you’re reading for awards, I’d be honored if you’d consider “Through the Machine.” Sharing the Gizmodo link today, just for fun, but it was published by Lightspeed and is eligible under the short fiction category. This is for everyone who thinks people should come before AI.
So let me get this straight…you’re not going to bring the House back into session until the government reopens…but the House will need to be in session in order to vote on a bill to reopen the government…right as food assistance programs will run out of funding.

How is this not your fault?
Mike Johnson says he will not bring the House back in session until the government reopens
If you see this, quote with a robot that isn't from "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Doctor Who", or "Transformers".

We don't cast off one segment of society to save ourselves. It's a betrayal of everything we're trying to defend. It's a cowardly kind of self-preservation.

If your plan for escaping this bank robbery involves deliberately killing a few of our fellow hostages, maybe sit this chat out for a while?
This is why Gavin Newsom is a non-starter for me.

Sure, he's "a fighter" who's landed a few good punches on Trump, but that's not the same thing as a leader.

A real leader doesn't fight back against an authoritarian takeover by using the most vulnerable as his shield.
I keep seeing people say, oh, trans people must take a hit for the greater good and, first of all, no, you don't get to discard someone else's rights and second, we know from past experience that marginalized communities like theirs are merely the first to be targeted. They'll come for you next.

Have you read “Through the Machine” yet? www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/thro...
This is such an amazing story. It’s easily the best I’ve read this year.
Now live, both the print and audio versions of my story, “Through the Machine” (As featured by Gizmodo—link threaded). Again, If you only read one of my stories this year, let it be this one. And if you like it, please share. www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/thro...
And this guy claims to be a practicing Catholic…
Matt Walsh: “If there's a noncitizen here who would starve without EBT, I would still say we should not give it to them”

This thread is a great first read this morning.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

At one point, they had Lumberyard, which was a game engine based on a licensed version of the Crysis engine. They gave up and donated it to the Linux Foundation to create Open3D engine. And Luna for game streaming

MechaHitler now fully in charge on X. I wonder if this will cause any self-reflection among the pundits & journis still hanging out there.
Musk: X will delete all heuristics from its recommendation system within six weeks. ...the familiar logic of likes, replies, and reposts that shaped Twitter for years is about to disappear. In its place, Grok, the platform's in-house Al model, will read and watch more than one hundred million posts.
Brace for another wave of x refuges

Just for the record, in 2020:
- Wray was the FBI director Trump handpicked to replace Comey
- Jack Smith was in the Hague prosecuting Kosovo war crimes
- Garland was an appeals court judge
- Monaco was in private practice in LA

There was no Biden administration yet, crooked or otherwise.

He crazy.

Everyone please diligently check your candy this year. I cracked open a snickers bar and not only did I find a copper ingot, but it was of poor quality.

Worse still, when my man Nanni confronted my neighbor about it, he was treated with disdain.
And this is going to get worse. I keep seeing YouTube ads for Thompson Reuter’s Legal AI services.
A year or two ago, I started keeping a list of cases where attorneys had been disciplined for submitting court documents with fake AI-generated filings. Figured it would be a short-lived phenomenon as attys became aware

I had to stop, because the number is growing faster than I could keep up
Marking the latest collision of artificial intelligence with attorney ethics, a large U.S. law firm told a judge it was "profoundly embarrassed" after one of its lawyers submitted a court filing with inaccurate and non-existent citations that were generated by AI.

The amount is meaningless — less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

Look. These are Nazi talking points. That's not NICE to say, but it's true, and it makes me sick.
Stephen Miller: "The scandal is how Democrats & the left scarred the landscape of our country w/grotesque so-called modern art that celebrates ugliness ... very importantly, President Trump is making sure it's in the neo-classical design around which our nation's architecture has long been directed"
It’s almost like some billionaire with a pop-history understanding of the late Roman Republic went “I don’t have a lot of land to give away…but I could buy the loyalty of a division with a pile of cash during the shutdown”

I don’t need to explain why it’s wildly unacceptable for the military to be illegally privately financed by the president’s wealthy allies, right?
New: The Pentagon confirms to CNN it will funnel $130M from an anonymous Trump “friend” toward military pay.

Asked about the donor’s identity and any foreign or domestic entanglements, the WH referred questions to DoD. DoD then referred questions back to the WH
