Currently rewatching #DontLookUp. Now imagine that instead of a comet speeding toward Earth, it's authoritarianism speeding across North America, impacting each and every day, with the impacts are growing larger and larger. Until there's nothing left. #America #uspoli

"The human body is an obstacle to efficiency (...) [but] real learning is slow. It is not oriented towards immediate use and immediate disposal." Efficiency in edu & research cheapens our work. We are already squeezed by new managerialism, time to reclaim our agency. #ResistAI
Learning is complex, messy, emotional: AI can’t replicate that
ChatGPT and other AI tools may seem irresistible. But educators should beware, as they could end up trading away the thing that gives them value — the rich experience of slow learning

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Happy Black History Month.

Important online safety tip.
You should only interact with people online that you can verify are real people. Do not engage with anyone else. An entire nation's intelligence service has spent years dedicated to undermining democracy and stability via the internet.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but opposing GenAI is not about opposing technology, it's about opposing capitalists.

GenAI is not a technology: it's a massive automation of theft, masquerading as an industry, run by grifters.

Don't hate computers, hate the capitalists behind the curtain.

I think a lot of people who don't often write (or who just don't care) understand how easy it is to spot "AI" text once you've been exposed to it. It's gotten to the point that I can look at a piece of "AI" writing and tell if it was written by ChatGPT or some other LLM. They have "house styles."

For Winter Break, why not download a fun urban fantasy read? Moon Dog Magic is book 1 in the six-volume Rune Witch series, and it's free!

A teenage witch, old Viking gods, and a cantankerous cat on the eve of Ragnarok. What could go wrong?

Amen! 🙌
I will never use LLM for anything to do with my writing. Even my research is driven by good research practice, not AI. Why would I? I like the work. If you don't like doing the work, ask yourself why you're not actually doing something you do like to do, instead.
