I suppose it does seem a lot more innocuous if you ignore the fact that they are military, who ordered them there and for what purpose, and the rhetoric used to justify it.

People have free will. It is a moral imperative to refuse an illegal order from a fascistic regime to be a fascist stormtrooper. Even if it means going to prison. Even if you think you are only going to be standing around as a show of force, and not opening fire.

It is a moral imperative to face a court martial if you must in order to refuse becoming a fascist stormtrooper.

You’re just doing the “clean Wehrmacht” myth but substituting the National Guard to the Wehrmacht and ICE for the SS.

I agree it’s harder for NG to refuse than it is for ICE. But refusing to be a fascist stormtrooper is such a strong moral imperative that it overrides any other concern.

If you agree to deploy to Chicago as a fascist storm trooper the you have implicitly bought into supporting authoritarianism.

I am comfortable saying I would take a stay in prison over becoming a fascist storm trooper.

Retired enlisted guy here—yes they do have a choice, but if the court rules against them they’ve bough themselves long vacation in Leavenworth or Miramar. So tell me, considering the current court decisions, would you take those odds?

I do too. But I’m not sure, “cherish every day because am Israeli could murder your children an there is nothing you can do about it but at least they will be in heaven” is the main lesson we should taking here.

That quote jumped out at me, too. The entitlement! The contempt!

It’s like self-parody — these people are so confident in their belief that their money should just shut down voters entirely (no paywall)

Everyone in the media market for North Dakota State University Bison Football pronounces “bison” with a z sound as “bizon”.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

just talked to Gov. Pritzker who dared President Trump to “come and get me” after POTUS threatened him with arrest. But Pritzker said he thinks Trump will chicken out.

Can some of us come back?

I’m opposed to ethnonationalism but if there was some equivalent of Israel’s right of return I would be taking advantage of that immediately.

The notion that Bari will be "running CBS News" is slightly misleading. What the reporting suggests is that Tom Cibrowski, a guy with normal qualifications, will be doing that. Bari will be Emperor Ellison's Vader-esque enforcer, outside the chain of command, intervening at will.

This anti-smoking ad from the Minnesota Department of Health makes me want to take smoking. That is the coolest goat I have ever seen.

Jesus Christ. DHS has held this guy in the hospital handcuffed to a bed and under constant guard for over a MONTH without ANY warrant or even ANY steps taken towards putting him into the removal system!
Petitioner’s counsel has requested documentation of a judicial warrant for his arrest, any charging documents, or other authority supporting his detention. See Santiago Decl. ¶¶ 18–20. ICE has provided no response. Id. To date, ICE has not placed Petitioner in removal proceedings, charged him with violating immigration law, set bond, issued a Notice to Appear, or otherwise processed him. See Pet. ¶¶ 16, 49. In Respondent’s Opposition brief, the government states “ICE intends to take further action consistent with the laws prescribed under the Immigration and Nationality Act (“INA”) once Petitioner is released from medical care and it can conduct the examination as [prescribed] in 8 C.F.R § 287.3.” Opp. at 4. Neither Petitioner nor Respondents have provided the Court with information about Petitioner’s citizenship, whether he has violated any law or regulation, or any information that would suggest that Petitioner is a flight risk.

It's weird that people who move from a US state to China get to keep voting for the President and Congress but people living in Puerto Rico don't.

Even citizens who have literally never in the US get to vote in most states if their parents used to live there.

Every blue state should work to cripple the operations of their National Guard and start putting resources into a State Defense Force/State Militia.

There is no reason for blue states to maintain military forces that can be commandeered by federal government and placed under the control of Trump.
