Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey after fatal shooting: "To ICE: Get the fuck out of Minneapolis. We don't want you here"
January 7, 2026 at 6:45 PM
Mayor Frey just told ICE to get the fuck out of Minneapolis so this might backfire on me.
This horrific murder of a woman by racist goons is an important test for any politician that wants to enter the race for Minnesota Governor. I won’t vote for anyone who didn’t use their power and platform to fight ICE and try to get them the fuck out of our state.
YOU ARE OUR SENATOR DEMAND THAT THEY LEAVE. DEMAND THAT THE SHOOTER IS PROSECUTED.

Virtually every gun law exempts the ICE goons but applies to every single protestor.

"I ask folks to remain calm."

Stop asking angry residents to calm down and start demanding that ICE leave or cease hostile activity. TAKE THE SIDE OF YOUR CONSTITUENTS.
My public safety team is working to gather information on an ICE related shooting this morning.

We will share information as we learn more. In the meantime, I ask folks to remain calm.

This is a decent article but it’s crazy to write an article about NYC’s approach to gun violence without acknowledging you receive 40% of your funding from Michael Bloomberg or that your newsroom president is the guy who wrote Bloomberg’s stop and frisk policy.
Gun violence in NYC is at a historic low, and Mamdani wants to use the moment to shift how the city approaches public safety.

Supporters call it overdue. Critics warn it could unravel what's working.

Finding that middle ground is just one of the many challenges this new administration will face.
Mamdani Plans to Rewrite New York City’s Public Safety Playbook
The new mayor has promised to focus on prevention. Here’s what experts think of his ideas.

Thanks to the DFL, the first thing someone has to do if they want to buy a gun to protect themselves in Minneapolis is register themself with the department that murdered George Floyd.
Dear MN elected officials,

Fascist goons are terrorizing and killing us *right now*. Please make this your top priority. Your job is to protect us.

A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

The 2nd amendment was intended to preempt a standing military that could occupy our cities and enact tyranny. And under the 14th amendment it was to make it harder for racists to disarm and murder racial minorities.

You can look around and tell me if you think those concerns are relevant today.
Would love for judges to spend more than half a second considering whether the Second Amendment, as written during a time when a well-trained infantryman could be expected to get around 3 shots PER MINUTE off, is at all applicable to modern firearms

(The answer is “not at all”)
9th Cir., 2-1, holds that open carry is protected by the Second Amendment even where a state allows concealed carry, strikes California's law banning urban open carry and its licensing law for open carry in rural counties.

If you want a key to Stancil: He thinks he's better than experts for not having done the reading. He thinks his own mind, from what he imagines are first principles, is better suited to arriving at true conclusions than their educated (biased) ones. That's why he posts, he thinks you're all stupid.

Here's the thing about Stancil: If Kat Abu wins her election, he won't credit any of the things he was critical of; but if she loses her election, it's going to be only because of them. The man hasn't adjusted his priors in years, or done any reading, and he's proud of both things.

That Trump ordered the kidnapping of a foreign head of state is the second biggest story today. The biggest & most ominous story is that hundreds, if not thousands, of active duty military personnel from generals & admirals on down obeyed Trump’s unconstitutional order to do so. #Venezuela

"Sensible" gun control and mandated speed limit governors are similar in that well meaning progressives don't stop to think for a second about how Stephen Miller will use the new toy they would be giving him.
The logics for sensible gun control and for mandated speed limit governors on cars are basically the same, but one will provoke insane responses from 50% of the population and the other will do the same for 98% of the population
People lose their minds about this but it would save literally thousands of lives.

I agree with Musk that Hitlerite Silicon Valley must fall.
Religious toleration was arguably one of the hallmark achievements of what Musk would call “western civilization,” but sure dude, we will all just sit around waiting for you to make your list of what you and your rich white friends will or will not tolerate. I look forward to complying fully.

It really sucks that they were able to extend copyright in 90s by another 20 years. Stuff from 1950 would have been going into the public domain this year.

I specifically want this on the form of calling people out for being behind the times.

“You’re still using gay as an insult? It’s the 20s, man!”
Now that we are halfway through can we finally start calling this decade the 20s?

Israel is never going to allow Gazans to thrive and it seems like no one cares
Israel says it will suspend several humanitarian groups, including Doctors Without Borders, in 2026 for failing its new vetting rules for groups working in Gaza. Some international organizations have said that Israel’s rules are arbitrary and could endanger staff.

Earlier this year, I attended a shooting competition for queer, often trans, very online misfits. Then Charlie Kirk was killed.
