Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Squandering sign-on bonuses and 6-figure salaries on beamers and benders in a feeble attempt to paper over their indelible shame.

One of the primary conditions that led to Mamdani's win was ranked choice voting. We need this everywhere, particularly in national elections. It greatly reduces major-party-power and incentivizes policy-based campaigning and coalition building. It's our best hope for ending the two-party duopoly.

Cool. But unfortunately, great news, too, for ICE, DHS, and the growing surveillance industrial complex.
good piece on Waymo's self driving cars

we can reasonably begin to look at self driving as a potential public health breakthrough, Waymo cars are much better and safer drivers than people

the problem is the economics of the technology not the technology itself

The biggest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing white people all racism must be intentional—when, in reality, most of it is not.

Countless MAGA "red-pilled" by overseas psyop bots is about as dystopian as it gets.
Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

Tesla is anti-union.

Amazon is anti-union.

McDonald's is anti-union.

Starbucks is anti-union.

Google is anti-union.

Walmart is anti-union.

These mega-corporations aren’t on workers’ side and their actions make it painfully clear.

They’re about to do regime change and a recession. It’s the 2000’s all over again.
It's an incredible bind that these financiers put society in. You basically have to do a bailout, because to simply let the bubble pop would be even more devastating for the entire country.

There is no democratic input at any part of this process, whether bubble inflation or bailout.

This also describes well the tension between the authority of the “self” and its total lack of any discernible, fixed, or measurable characteristics. Authoritarianism thrives in minds gripped by acute self-preoccupation. Serving others - community - is the antidote.

We’ll never change anything when we belittle believers. That’s for damn sure.
Religion is harmful to society because it causes irrational behavior. This is not something new. It has been around for centuries.
Which "God" would want us so divided?
Maybe one that sells weapons.
