Thank you, Brooklyn! Getting to represent the neighborhoods that raised me is the greatest privilege of my life.

Today, NYC Council passed Int. 1216A, which will provide salons with multilingual posters that
display resources for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence. This will ensure survivors are met where they are, in trusted spaces, with the resources they need.

While our country faces a critical nursing shortage, the Trump admin has rolled back programs that make advanced degrees more affordable for nurses. This is not only bad for nurses—it’s dangerous and unhealthy for us all.
NYSNA vehemently opposes the Trump Dept. of Education's proposed rule to exclude nursing from "professional degree" programs. Full statement here: nysna.org/press/nysna-statement-does-proposed-rule-exclude-nursing-professional-degree-programs

Proud to join @ny4p.bsky.social to rally for real investments to repair and maintain our park bathrooms and water fountains. New Yorkers have had to deal with closed, dirty, and unsafe park facilities for long enough. Let’s invest in environmental justice and our ability to enjoy our parks.

When Raju and his co-workers came to our office, they were in crisis after months without pay. We connected them with Workers Justice Project, Brooklyn Legal Services, and the Brooklyn DA, and helped the workers through the difficult wage theft case and unemployment insurance process. (1/7)

I was so proud to celebrate Reel Works' new media learning lab which my office proudly funded with an additional $80K. Reel Works has served our community for 25 years, and supported over 10,000 young filmmakers with free training, and real pathways into media careers.

Huge moment today: Intro 1076 was heard in committee! This bill ensures MENA-owned businesses are finally counted and can qualify for M/WBE certification if disparities are found. Now let’s get it passed!

I joined the Carroll Gardens Association to launch their Raise the Rates pilot in our 39th District, a campaign to set a fair minimum wage for nannies at $30/hour. Right now, no minimum wage exists for this essential workforce. Nannies are organizing, and together we’re fighting for $30.

To be a successful working-class woman of color comes with the territory of erasure. I’m sure the kids will find me the way I found Begum Rokeya among others.
And it’s just infuriating to see Shahana Hanif’s story be ignored, particularly in this moment. This won’t be the last time I rant about this, but I’ve read more about losing (almost all male) Muslim candidates than I have about the most successful Muslim woman in the history of NYC politics.

Without question, one of the hardest things I’ve taken on.
In 2021 a single, Muslim, Bangladeshi young woman raised in Kensington got elected to the NY City Council in D39, the district that de Blasio and Lander had represented. Her name is Shahana Hanif and she won re-election in 2025 with a remarkable 70% of the vote against seriously funded opposition.

This isn’t about me. It’s about all of us.

It’s about a justice system which has been weaponized. A justice system which has been used as a tool of revenge.

My faith is strong. I have belief in the justice system and the rule of law.
