The first living thing to go through the device was a small white rat. I still have him, in fact. As you can see, the damage was not so great as they say.

No idea why an Afghan refugee shot National Guard soldiers within walking distance of the White House, but this new USCIS directive was revealed on Monday. Worth noting.
The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

Anyway, Nuzzi is going to milk this latest set of gross revelations for all it’s worth, parlaying it into more insipid fawning coverage on her I’m-not-sorry-but-this-is-a-redemption-tour gig.

She’s basically a less charming George Santos.
Nuzzi is like Trump in this sense: the worst thing about America is not that someone that awful exists, the worst thing is that much of the press promotes and normalizes it for clicks.

Never did find anything solid on the chain of custody there. Did learn there were wayyyy more official saints than I thought, which made the super thin biography of the kid in the altar in Dubuque seem less weird.
Went down a rabbit hole after reading a church in Dubuque IA has the bones of some 12 year old martyred in the 4th century that they got from the Pope in the 1800s.

I had questions. Mostly about where the bones were for 1500 years. Does Vatican have a strategic saint bones reserve?

Ergotism primarily causes serotonin syndrome leading to tachycardia, convulsions, intestinal distress, and so on, with maybe some hallucinations and delirium as a secondary effect.

So it's really more of a substitute for bath salts.

There will be a flood of conspiracy theories from both sides about what the DC National Guard shooting "really" was. Except nobody knows exactly what happened or if anyone died, and there are no details about the shooter. Sometimes the proper response is not to respond for a while.

The CDC has turned off its vaccine search tool.

The vaccines.gov site now gives an error when you enter a valid zip code.

They also removed text saying “Vaccines can help you stay healthy” and added a banner saying the site is being updated.

I have a strong suspicion that someone used an AI summary here. The phrase “exceedingly limited” in this context appears in an article by Judge J. Michael Luttig, in The Atlantic. But the cite gets the context completely wrong. Here’s what Judge Luttig says:
Question about the dissent by (the far-right) Justice Ziegler: Does this quote actually appear in Moore v. Harper? Did Moore say that state courts' role in congressional redistricting is "exceedingly limited"? I don't think it did! vhdshf2oms2wcnsvk7sdv3so.blob.core.windows.net/thearp-media...
