This post was specifically referring to the 2018 movie Aniara, which I recommend so so much. Another example would be the book "The Thousand Earths" by Stephen Baxter. I think my first time with the trope was in a spongebob episode called Spongehenge lmao

I'm not explaining this perfectly because the trope isn't JUST a large time skip. The trope is when a specific character/society has degraded to the point where you think they've hit rock bottom, only to jump ahead and show you how much further they have to fall
one of my favorite tropes has to be the exponentially increasing time skip. like you're watching a dystopian movie and you say "oh god it can't get any worse than this" and then the movie jumps forward 200 years

Nier begins with a zombie apocalypse/death plague looking scenario and then immediately time jumps like 42000 years and everything has gone back to basically agrarian subsistence farming and everyone is highly aware humanity is doomed
