NEW: @CDCgov hit hard by massive firings that several staff describe to me as a “bloodbath.”
Among those RIFd:

Look what arrived today 😃

I was incredibly lucky and won these two signed copies from @simkern.bsky.social

Would anyone be interested in reading along with me? I was thinking of a very flexible, read at your own pace, and discuss in a Discord as and when able read-a-long.

We raised $30,000+ this week in direct aid for 10 families in Gaza City who needed transportation south and funds for tents and essentials, due to the IOF invasion. Help us double that amount to help 10 more families evacuate, including two pregnant moms: chuffed.org/project/gaza...
Gaza City Evacuation
September 2025: Israel is heavily bombarding and systematically demolishing every remaining building in Gaza City, forcing 1 million people to leave their homes and head south.

Gaza City faces invasion. Every $3k raised in this fund goes directly to a family so they can arrange transportation south and the purchase of a tent. If you read GENOCIDE BAD, you’ll want to know that baby Elena is one of these families. Please donate & share widely: chuffed.org/project/gaza...

Books by indie presses rarely become bestsellers, let alone anti-Zionist books about Palestine. @sarahprager.bsky.social asked @simkern.bsky.social & @hannahmoushabeck.bsky.social, co-owner of @interlinkbooks.bsky.social, how GENOCIDE BAD became a bestseller.

@simkern.bsky.social spoke to Mother Jones about their latest book, "Genocide Bad."

"This is where being Jewish is relevant to me. I just feel like “genocide bad” was so drilled into me from a young age. It was the first historical political lesson that I was ever taught."

Recommended reading about the roots of the Holocaust in larger systems of oppression:

Genocide Bad: Notes on Palestine, Jewish History, and Collective Liberation by @simkern.bsky.social

Heavyweight: A Family Story of the Holocaust, Empire, and Memory by Solomon J. Brager
This is so important! Exceptionalizing the Holocaust keeps us from understanding how it happened and preventing more atrocities from happening.
The Holocaust is not unique and comparing it to contemporary genocides and projects of tyranny does not trivialize its horrors or its victims, it strengthens our resolve to refuse its repetition.

I feel this too, as a reader. Witnessing a live-streamed genocide has fundamentally altered my priorities and worldview. Any escapist book I try to read, or any not deeply concerned with universal human rights, feels like salt in a wound. Only books that confront empire head-on will do.
I finally realized the reason I was having a hard time concentrating on reading is that I was trying to read the WRONG BOOKS. Thanks so much to @simkern.bsky.social and the folks at @interlinkbooks.bsky.social .

Part activist memoir, part crash course in Jewish and Palestinian history, 'Genocide Bad' dismantles Zionist propaganda and maps a course towards collective liberation in ten unapologetic essays.

And I get that the parade is symbolic. Of fascism. But fascism is bad because it leads to GENOCIDE.
