sometimes i realize i should be really grateful for my decades of experience with people attempting to pull scams, grifts, and hoaxes on forums and usenet for teaching me exactly how people behave when they're backed into a corner on an obvious scam, a pattern that you never forget once learned

The thing about the enforcement of a hierarchy is that there have to be harsh punitive measures to make examples of anyone who treats those on the lower rungs too much like an equal.
ICE raids are not the first time this was made explicit. I think people downplay how much Jim Crow was not just about controlling Black people but it was also about controlling white people. If you thought racism was dumb and acted that way you could end up with a bomb in your home
Just keep coming back to the fact that keeping people in a constant state of terror is a form of mass disablement and essential to the eugenic project that is the United States.

What if we had a word for the specific form of violence, exclusion, and dehumanisation directed at trans women... hmm... makes you think
"It's not transphobic if we allow trans boys to play on boys' teams but ban trans girls from girls' teams" has the same bouquet as "General Motors can't have discriminated against Black women on the basis of race if they hire Black men, or on the basis of sex if they hire white women."

This has been something I've struggled with since Covid tbh.
I've never been able to entirely reconcile my politics with the undeniable fact that most of my neighbours would be happy to see me dead rather than inconvenience themselves for even a moment.
