I’m proud of my solo game dev work this year, to say one good thing about 2024. A few script rewrites away from a playable demo

Run a coffee shop, solve mysteries and defeat enemies in breakfast-based combat in a DS-inspired RPG/VN hybrid

Two screens. Top screen - rain clouds and inventory UI. Bottom screen - character standing in front of coffee shop, lamenting that they’ve worked a year there

It’s hard to parse what the problems are when the review praises every improvement, but alludes to some underlying bigger issue that’s never explained

That’s what stock photo libraries are for though. Nobody’s asking studios to create every single background asset from scratch

Also, saying it’s ok for small studios to steal background art instead of pay for it gives the ok for bigger studios who can pay artists not to

Feel so powerful when a buncha ppl keep alluding to “that part” in a game, all like “ooo you’ll know when you get to it, it’s so bad” then you find out what it is and you got past it ages ago without much trouble

starting out in the intro i'm already floored. i literally learned japanese because I grew up at the same time as the author and wanted to actually learn more and engage better with the same games. Don't call your book definitive and play semantic games with SuFami vs SNES,

"Asking what each game is ABOUT means much more than simply reciting plot or sharing historical information. The thematic approach that this book takes would have turned a smaller project into one that could eat up more than a decade. By my count, there are well over a hundred Super Famicom RPGs that never saw a western release in their day. We also have to reconcile with the facts that not every SFC RPG has had a complete fan translation into English and most readers of this book won't be familiar with many of them anyway. I don't speak or read Japanese, and make no mistake: You probably need to be able to read the text in order to play those RPGs and understand them.

Yes he’s very blatantly broken the rules against harassment by making it clear he’s only here to harass ppl but he’s mates with the head of trust and safety so what can you do 🤷‍♀️
