I got a PhD and somehow I ended up live streaming Dark Souls. Living the dream in west London. He/him and Welsh. (Profile pic is my black cat.)

Just idly musing on the need to keep ourselves informed & do the equivalent of "due diligence" in our personal lives. It's exhausting. At some point we need to trust others. We have neither the knowledge or the capacity to check everything.

RIP Annie Hall. 😢 La di da.

Yeah I suspect the entire carriage was waiting for someone to Say Something. How very British.

I could have played the sensory issues card, but I’ve got so used to masking it that I just suffered out of habit.

I’m open to being told that I’m all three, incidentally.

Oh thank God, she’s got off. Now I can enjoy a whole fifteen minutes of quiet.

How do you tell someone to STFU without seeming impolite, intolerant or possibly (in this case) misogynistic?

I had no idea they had to be inspected. Although I’m not surprised, it being Switzerland.

When we were in Switzerland, I wrote about our bunker.

I support my friend’s Substack because she’s a friend and actually writes really well. But otherwise, right with you.

Also she’s swearing (casually, not angrily) with children in the seats by her. I’m no prude, and I don’t feel it’s my place to complain, but for heaven’s sake this is surely unacceptable and I don’t know why the parents aren’t saying something.

The train’s full, in case you’re wondering why I don’t move.

Jesus, this woman is so *loud*. And she has not stopped talking since we left London. I no longer even know what she’s saying, it’s like rain thundering onto a roof. A constant hammering of noise which your brain just filters out because it’s inescapable.

I’d mind less if this woman’s voice weren’t so penetrating. It’s a shame, I normally love the Irish accents.

Thanks to a young Irishwoman several seats away I now know everything I never wanted to know about the Marylebone nightlife.

I find quiet carriages are either like hushed churches, or family reunions. This is the latter.

I’m on a train. The quiet carriage isn’t.

Since I don’t do age verification, I have no idea who has messaged me; nor, more annoyingly, how to get rid of this irritating badge.
Bluesky DM logo. A speech bubble with three dots inside is topped by a blue circle with a number 1 inside it.

Just my luck to be reading this the day before I take my son to an open day.

Someone threw anti-semitic abuse at me.

I’m not Jewish.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

“Could” lead to an authoritarian state. Surely this is the very definition of one?

These days I often think of how Australia dominated world cricket in the 90s. Someone astutely observed that they would be beaten not because other nations got better, but because Australia got worse. I see the same pattern with Tory governments.

Yes! Gosh, that takes me back. Pleasant chap.

Please tell me someone has developed a spray wash for vegetables and called it Lettuce Spray. I so want this to be a thing, please please tell me it’s a thing.

One of my proudest boasts is that my father was an assistant officiant at the ordination of the first women priests at Bristol Cathedral back in *checks notes* 1994.
