This is hard to process. The level of gun violence in this country is overwhelming. I don't know how to solve it. It's a sad state of affairs when you have to be afraid to go to a birthday party.

My roommate's boyfriend moved in without asking... and now he's accusing me of crossing boundaries Advice Needed I (28F) live in a 2-bed apartment with my roommate "Kay" (29F). We've lived together 3 years with zero issues. Three months ago her boyfriend "J" (30M) started staying over more. Then it became every night. Then his computer appeared on our dining table. Then his shoes were lined up by the door. Then I realized he had a toothbrush, a razor, AND a shelf in the bathroom. The man moved in. No discussion. No offer to pay rent. Nothing. IG & Threads: @ask I brought it up gently. Kay apologized and said "he's in a rough patch financially but it's temporary." She asked if I could "just be patient a little longer." I said okay but only for a month. That month passed. Nothing changed. Last week, I came home early from work and walked in on J sitting on MY couch, eating MY leftover food from a container with my name on it. He goes, "Oh sorry, I didn't think you'd notice." I snapped. Told him he needed to start paying rent or leave. He got defensive and said I was "creating tension in the home" and that I "don't respect their relationship." Later that night, Kay said J feels "uncomfortable" around me now and thinks "don't like him." I said I don't like that he's living here for free while using my utilities and eating my food. She said I was being "cold and territorial." So... I gave an ultimatum: He contributes by the 1st, or I'm not renewing the lease. Now Kay is crying, J is slamming doors, and apparently I'm the one "destroying the home environment." I feel like I'm losing my mind. How did I become the villain for wanting a roommate, not a couple plus bonus adult? IG
