I know a lot of people deeply upset with how the last shutdown went. And while I get that, having seen the first hand effects of SNAP not going out on time I believe it was the right call.

This is a good explanation as to the why and how this one is likely to go including the likely break points.
From the minority in both chambers, having the asks be targeted like this, and something no reasonable person could object to *and also* something republicans will likely scream their heads off objecting to, is the move IMO.
NEWS from inside the Senate Dem meeting tonight:
1-Schumer has the votes to block the DHS funding bill
2-They're going to ask for real investigations into the murders (including an end to impeding the state/local investigations), an end to masks and arrest quotas.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

Nearly finished. A few minor tweaks to the paint and I need to decide on the framing before I go and cut a full mat for the piece.

Shout out to @distractable.bsky.social for the mini easels. They are great for this.

In addition to sculpting and painting my own Mucha flats, I'm really enjoying working on these two that Oroborus Miniatures makes

I covered the Chicago Police Department for years and it's impossible to miss the similarities to shootings here over the years. The tactical chaos. The car-as-weapon official account that doesn't match the known evidence. The immediate insistence on justification by forces representing the shooter.

New project started. Been wanting to do this one for a long time. Based on a self portrait of Vincent Van Gogh, I plan to use the one in the Chicago Art Institute as my primary reference.

If you’re looking for some way to help.
ICE observers in the Twin Cities are in need of dash cams to prevent further intimidation and frivolous claims.

Cams are $110, memory cards $35, and ship to us directly via this wish list: www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

If you've been looking for a way to help, we'd sure appreciate it!

I'm dieing here. Enjoy the wonderful Christmas absurdism.
I was looking for an anniversary gift for @jsking.bsky.social, I was served a random ad for a Star Trek advent calendar which I bought without really thinking about it. On December 1, he *really* looked at it.
"What does that say?" "To boldly go this Christmas" "Does it?" "OH." (1/?)

Under things I wish i had known as a kid: If I'm organizing or cleanig often 70% of the pain I'm in is literally allergy reaction to dust kicked up and a bit of Benadryl will knock out everything that isn't just exercise pain leaving me feeling like an actual functional human being.

I started putting together some dioramas made from flats. Unfortunately because of how shiny they are and the lack of depth it's very hard to get decent pictures of them at this stage.

(Yes I am also working on the Wyrd cats in the foreground which have taken way longer than I intended.)

There are several really long massively angry rants inside me about the current shit show pretending to be our government, but the one I'm most viscerally livid about is food stamps.

42 million people in fucking NOVEMBER are about to lose access to the only thing they have keeping them fed.

I had been looking for a way to actively support the removal of Citizens United's treatment of corporations and people. I hadn't realized it was predicated on state laws. That seems an excellent place to start chipping away at it.

Reminder: look deeper into how to help with this in illinois 📌
This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.

Skywise is finished, which means I'll have at least two pieces for the MMSI show next weekend. Don't think I'm gonna get the still life done in time at this rate.

One more thing added to my list of reasons I detest the Salvation Army.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

Today's harvest before I even touch the cherry tomatoes or the parsley.

The rodents started digging up the daffodils so I decided to have at a bit earlier in the season than I had originally intended.. this is only the two spots closest to the stoop and with me leaving the biggest deepest clump in. It was definitely past time to divide these out.

Finished it. Based on Alphonse Mucha's Evening Star.

Approximately 3 x 6", cast resin sculpt, brass trim, acrylic paint.

I love broccoli harvest season.

I can feel fall coming in my bones at this point. If I'm lucky and I take decent care of the beds I'll have two more months of garden veggies even as the insane quantities of squash die back.

Finished with Skywise. Time to repaint his tree.

The garden and the CSA this year has been amazing, and sharing back and forth with my nextdoor neighbor has just made it better.

Two nights of lovely food:

Garlic lemon "butter" (Myoko's plant butter) chard, salt potatoes, and mushroom hamburger quinoa. That chard was incredible.

I have cancelled my Substack account. I have no desire to hang out in a Nazi bar. There are many other good options for hosting that aren't promoting Nazis. If I can't find your newsletter elsewhere I no longer care.
The Substack app apparently push alert promoted a Nazi newsletter to several users. Users have complained about it on Substack Notes but the company hasn’t responded. Generally push alert promos are for content a user is likely to interact with

Working on the harvest still life flat. An original sculpt based on a photo from when my garden was keeping me sane during year two of Covid. I dove kinda heavily into my art at the same time.

Haven't had nearly enough time to work on this lately. Gotta fix that.

I now know exactly what the trim design will be, though I might shift the color of the lines to a dark blue tone. The reddish brown doesn't harmonize with the rest of the piece as well as I hoped.
