My wife of 29 years, bookbinder and book artist Jana Pullman, passed away in February after a long illness. She’s gotten some great memorials, including a posthumous award and a binding in a new exhibit at MN History Center. Here’s her take on that work: aboutthebinding.blogspot.com/2012/08/open...

This binding was done  on the book Open Horizons by Sigurd F. Olson. It is about his love affair with the wilderness in Wisconsin. It i...

Time for GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S FRANKENSTEIN DISCOURSE!

I keep seeing people worry about whether del Toro properly did justice to Mary Shelley. And I have to ask: why is that del Toro's job more than anyone else's?

And also, didn't he?

And also, how could he? He's not a mother. 1/

Lots of excitement around Free Little Pantries recently. I love the mutual aid aspect. I especially love the in-neighborhood support but, please, please consider all the food safety that goes along with such aid. Don't allow stuff to freeze or swelter. Chk for safety recalls. Keep the space tidy.

Darlings, a reminder for when everything feels bad:

--Reach out.
--Move toward joy.
--Drink water.
--Take your meds.
--Allow yourself to feel your feelings.
--A 3 minute dance party in the kitchen helps.
--If you have a pet, hug them. (Unless it's, like, a fish.)
--When in doubt, make art.

Thank you for your example. No one deserves to go hungry.
I was at the grocery store last minute purchasing candy for tonight when some loudmouth went off on how glad they were SNAP benefits were stopping.

Friends, I was so angry. I just gave two neighbours grocery gift cards because I know they use the program. Everyone deserves food.

Writing Hell-kettle evoked memories of when I "ate after the kids."

Using hunger and starvation as a political pawn is unconscionable.

No person, no family, should experience hunger and despair so politicians can make a point

Also one last bit. Donating to your local foodshelf over the regional food bank will funnel your donations quicker and provide a more street-level use. Do what you feel is best, though.
