The impact on children is going to be horrific. Apparently we learned nothing as a nation from the damage caused by Section 28, and having grown up under it, I wish that were not the case.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

Sane governments (not necessarily good ones - there are few of those - but at least those that retain a link to reality) need to step up and heavily fund vaccine research, with the fruits of it in the public domain.
