"bitch is derogatory not a slur" what do you think a slur is and why do you think bitch doesn't count

The pretty simple fact of the matter is that Weinstein was the only true “casualty” of MeToo in Hollywood, and that is solely because he was a bully to men too and everyone pounced on the excuse to oust him. If he’d nicer to directors and male stars he’d still be free and working.
I'm flummoxed by the underground movement to rehab cancelled figures. There's a rumor that a studio head is planning to begin bringing cancelled people back. It's bananas. The industry has contracted, leaving writers, directors and actors scrambling for work and we're making space for sex criminals?

You gotta figure that enough time has passed that we should be getting some tell all books from former Smurfs about living in that cult

I like in anime when they have an androgynous male character they get a woman with a deep voice to voice him

everyone on the top letterboxd reviews of annie (2014) is complaining about how everyone on letterboxd hates annie for no reason. hmm i'm beginning to doubt ye all considering how all of the top reviews are people complaining about haters and not actual haters

Last month, @theguardian.com framed this historical event project the same way; minimizing the years of archival work, the interviews etc it took to be able to do this.

Instead ‘AI solved this historical problem!’

I’m not sure why AI is so prominent in this article since a historian did the lion’s share of the archival digging and AI simply verified what experts already confirmed.

“Cancellation limbo”: when you’re definitely not cancelled but not as celebrated as you used to be. This is one reason why “cancel culture” discourse is so tiresome: a lot of people are using it to mean “my life was affected in some negative way by my actions”

Imagine posing for a photographer friend who sells your image to iStock and a year later, you see this is what The Washington Post has done with the image of you walking on a beautiful fall day

kind of hate this image because 1) what map looks like this. like seriously what index would have almost all of asia in the red and all of africa except for south africa and madagascar in the orange. like have you actually looked at these kinds of indices they don't look like this.

there's a certain type of parent that's so obsessed with "discipline" that they'll piss literally everyone off to maintain it. and then blame that on the child.

monosexuals stop trying to paint yourselves as authorities of the bisexual experience i do not care if you used to think you were bisexual, you are not and so you need to actually listen to bisexuals instead of acting like you know more about bisexuality than we do.

hate how "drinking the kool-aid" means "being so brainwashed you'll kill yourself" and not "killing yourself because you know that they'll kill you anyway if you don't"

Hey @nature.com, have you got an explanation for how the hell THIS happened? & especially why you accepted a paper with such a bizarre piece of genAI slop in it?!
& more to the point, why we should take you seriously at all going forward?

Even with an intact CDC and FDA, only like 1% of foodbourne outbreaks were ever identified. 1 out of 6 Americans get a foodbourne illness each year, with no identifiable cause.

Now? All but the very largest, most severe outbreaks will be just like that.
Fun fact: the vast vast majority of foodbourne illness in the US is not part of an outbreak, defined as 2+ people getting sick from a common food source, but a sporadic and isolated thing.

Only about 1% of outbreaks are ever actually identified as such.

People vastly underestimate how important trans* rights are in the contemporary fight for freedom.

If you cannot make your own choices for your body, the name you go by, or even the very clothes that you wear, then you are not, in any sense, meaningfully free.

I feel like this was also the western perception of Hinduism prior to the rise of the Modi/BJP regime. Fact is, there isn't a religion/culture in the world that hasn't been violent and bloodthirsty when in a position of majoritarian power.
Maybe the “rise of” framing doesn’t help Westerners accept that religiosity, extremism, and violence are all essential parts of Buddhist history. Trouble accepting this always indicates Buddhism is an empty plaything for some people’s projection, not a multifaceted tradition.
