To be very clear, Kennedy's team is messing with a vaccine which has led to a 99 percent drop in the incidence of hepatitis B, which kills, early and painfully, 25 percent of the people who get it as children. lnk.thebulwark.com/3Xt957M
RFK’s Anti-Vax Team Readies Its Next Moves
“Their game is, let’s really destabilize trust in the vaccine, and make people really anxious about it.”

I have more trouble handling the cold as I age, but I think climate change is also screwing with our internal rhythms. The summer gets so hot that our bodies adjust for warmer climes, and then winter just feels colder even though it's not. There's no gradual adjustment. It's a slingshot of extremes.

The freaks shouting at everyone to hop aboard team fash REQUIRE boosted support to be heard by wide audiences, because normal people think it's gross. Any politician or journalist who does not comprehend this or actively ignores it should not have their position.
The real question is not "Why is Bluesky so left-coded," the real question is "Why can't the right exist in a social media environment without algorithmic assistance, where people can ignore them"

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

I'm really loving the Playstation phase of the retro game design movement. I predict they'll do N64 next, which I will also love. Then we're done, right? Like, that's it? A few devs are gonna do a 360 thing and everyone's gonna be all... why? Then there's nothing left to mine after that.

The word "doomerism" is horribly abused on here. Some of you use it as code for "telling me what I don't want to hear" and it's childish.

This is exactly my take. I love driving and I love my car. I think most people hate driving, and that's why they're bad at it. They would be happier to take a train or bus if the choice was convenient. And I'd happily park five minutes away and walk if it took ten fewer minutes to get somewhere.
i’ll never understand why public transit haters discourage use of public transit and want to defund it. if less people use cars the roads will have less traffic and you’ll get to where you want faster with your own car. stupid people

Wooooow I guess it's officially "fuck that guy" o'clock
Reporter: If there were a second strike that killed wounded people, would that be legal?

Trump: I don’t know that happened and Pete said he did not even know what people were talking about. I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal. It was fine.

being canceled is not a real thing, it is a neologism describing the stigma that should come from bad behavior. the only consequences that come from it are the ones we collectively imposed, and as the last decade has shown, no one with institutional power is interested in that.

The problem with fetishizing the rule of law is that people have to break the law to resist fascism, state violence, and oppression. This has always been true, and is very much the case RIGHT NOW.

And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

It’s a fact that nobody in positions of power is willing to risk eroding their own power by doing anything meaningful to hinder the worst of their colleagues they see the system they preside over as more important than any cruelty no matter how bad and they won’t risk weakening it so much as an iota

the fact that dealing with rampant lying and its much worse downstream consequences involves cultivating values rather than just imposing formal frameworks or rules (legal or otherwise) is a tough pill to swallow for some. but it is indeed medicine
Pointing out that something is incorrect definitely isn't sufficient - the *culture* of "it is bad to make incorrect statements, good to promptly and clearly retract and apologize for them, and disqualifying to keep making them deliberately" is the framework needed for fact-checking to plug into.

Duffy's recent obsession with everyone being fancy flyers is indicative of everything ridiculous about Republicans' take on government. They want to control our behavior by telling us what to do instead of crafting policy and investing in infrastructure and regulation that encourage that behavior.

I really, really, really wish that old white men I've never met would stop interrupting my day to relate to me apropos of literally nothing. A paltry complaint, but it's very tiring. I do not have it in me to humor you or pretend that having to deal with you is anything other than a nuisance.

WELKER: What is your message to Jewish New Yorkers who feel you won't be tough enough in your response to antisemitism?

It was always pageantry. It's kind of Trump's only real skill.
