This is one of those things that I hope isn't true because the implications are Very Bad, but...

Did a lot of the current image problems with the Democratic Party start with House of Cards, whose villain protagonist was a Democrat?

I'm a big fan of someone who has read exactly two sentences that I've ever written telling me what I think about unrelated topics, also known as the Bluesky Experience.

Unlike you, I can read and that’s why I know what the constitution says.
Trump on Ilhan Omar: "I look at somebody who comes from Somalia...and she comes in and tells us how to run our country. 'The Constitution says this, the Constitution says that.' The whole thing is crazy."

well I put off doing *this* admin task for weeks and actually it fucking sucks and it's taking soooo long, it's hateful, so there

I feel like both sides of this argument are correct, it just depends on where you measure from.

1975? Oh yeah the past is terrible and you don't want to go back.

2005? You don't know what they've taken from you.
This really is just nostalgia. Cars are much better now. A $65 pair of shoes will still last years if you don't beat them up, and you can buy better ones for a bit more if you like. The annoyances in modern products are "too many useless features" and not "could malfunction and kill you."
Cars were better when you didn't need a subscription to turn on your heated seats or when companies couldn't literally throttle your engine output/power without paying a subscription fee! That kind of rent seeking makes products worse and makes them want when products didn't do that.

All media is propaganda and nobody, on any political side, with any epistemology, is immune to propaganda.

But like, social media websites? They are the most propaganda.(This definitely includes TikTok, but it also includes any other site on the internet where people can post things)
I don’t understand the people who say “GET OFF TWITTER, ELON IS USING THE ALGORITHM TO CONTROL YOUR MIND” - then turn around and scoff at the idea that TikTok, a vastly larger app that is far more heavily built around an algorithm, might also be influencing people’s views.

The promise of AI chat assistants: they solve 90% of the problems users have (by looking up the docs and telling them)

My reality: need to spend 10 minutes trying to get to a human, to solve an issue I need customer support to look into

Around minute 8 I sign up to a competitor

The only answer is, whatever they want.
"What should poor people be allowed to eat?" seems to be a burning question for those who aren't poor, have never been poor, and can afford to eat what they like, but want to keep poor people from eating anything that tastes really good. "No fresh meat," said Iowa, a few years ago.

It’s very hard to do coalition politics when each part of the coalition spends as much time lobbing grenades at each other as they do republicans

When I'm trying to decide who to vote for and what the government has done for me lately, the first place I look is the White House website and the blog of the Council of Economic Advisors. I am a normal American who likes sports and definitely not some weird alien.
"Hi, my name is Kevin Baker, I didn't read a single White House press release or CEA post in 2023 or 2024"

It's a good idea. It runs into the same problem as the equivalent fix for healthcare though.

We need like, a lot more lawyers (and doctors), and between the cost + time to train and professional protectionism, we will not get them.
I think a pseudo-niche political opinion that I’m developing is judge-maxing. Both the United States and the world generally need far greater number of judges. I think we need legal-abundance: an oversupplied court system able to both clear simple cases quickly and devote more time to complex ones.

I wish Bluesky had a feature where if one person reposted post X and you already saw it, you dont also see the same repost from other people too.

I know you can hide posts, and i do, but i only do it once i had already gotten actively annoyed by seeing the same post over and over.

But anyone who says that they're coming for elections is dooming, they can't possibly be coming for the elections.

I pay for games, but calling people whiny babies if they don't is largely the same thing as RIAA "you wouldn't download a car" propaganda from the dotcom era. Music piracy is mostly dead, not because people are better, but because we fixed the market dynamics that caused it.
