Seeing the discourse about reading and I wasn't taught how to read, but rather I discovered reading.
I was lucky. The adults got out of my way. By 10, I was reading at 1k wpm with 90% comprehension and 80% retention. For pleasure, I read at about 300 wpm, roughly a page per minute.

Christianity Today is an influential magazine in Evangelical circles, and it's a noteworthy signpost that they're doing stories like this because it's the kind of story that pops bubbles.

A Colombian couple prayed with neighbors and raised their children in one of America’s most influential churches. What did we gain from their deportation?

ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

If I flashed ECMs more than every few months, I'd be capable of doing it in half the time. But I wouldn't, because if I were to mess up, then my company just bought a very expensive paperweight.
Earned some overtime on a Friday evening. Plus I'll be getting a bonus for keeping a big customer happy.
Maybe next time, they will remove the ECMs completely before welding on the tugboat, as we have advised them to do on more than one occasion.
Or, we can just keep programming new ECMs.

Done all of these. My mom bought the encyclopedia one volume each week when I was eight until we had the complete Funk & Wagnalls, because I was a prodigy and was already reading every book and magazine in the house.
I have never done (9) (it's anti-social), (13) (Blockbuster never operated in my country), or (20) (those things were *expensive*).
I am teh oldz.
