Sen Chris Murphy warns Dems:

"If people don’t see us fighting on something as existential as whether we condone the federal government murdering our own citizens, there will be a mass withdrawal from politics altogether."

On the pod, Murphy lays it all out so well:

FBI historian here. Basically all of the FBI’s greatest scandals across history come from attempts to criminalize First Amendment rights. It never works out well for the bureau and ends a lot of careers.
I would like to know how my prior colleagues, who have chosen to pursue leadership positions under this charlatan, justify ordering agents to break their oaths of office and open investigations on people simply for exercising their legal rights.

Good luck gazing in the mirror when this is all over.
FBI investigating Minnesota Signal groups tracking ICE, Patel says

The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced the Democrats have to push their hand immediately. The parallels with the delays and subsequent failures after January 6th are blaring warning signs about what will happen if they don’t go after the issues with ICE and CBP at the root RIGHT NOW.

Looks like Greg Bovino is the chosen fall guy as the Trump admin scrambles to navigate the anti-ICE backlash. Reportedly being "forced into retirement" and denied access to his social media accounts.

Don't accept it for a second. Keep pushing for full accountability.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

Bovino doesn't just go home. Kristi Noem doesn't get to ride off into the sunset with Corey Lewandowski on her horse. Stephen Miller doesn't get to order federal agencies to break the law and then move over to Fox News. Investigate, prosecute, punish. No one is above the law.
Kristi Noem is an absolute disgrace. Tell your representatives in Congress it’s time to impeach!

DHS official: Greg Bovino, you're fired.

Press: Bovino has been fired.

Bovino: Fire me and I roll on Noem and Miller. They ordered me to do it.

WH: He's not fired.
DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin denies that Bovino is losing his job but she’s also a liar. We’ll have to see.

I'm a nobody and I knew this shit would happen if Trump were elected. This guy is an attorney with gubernatorial aspirations and now acting like he's surprised by it. Get bent.
Chris Madel: "The president posted something on Truth Social saying it was a time of reckoning and retribution on the citizens of my state, and I've seen that happen and I cannot be a part of it, and I can't be a part of a party that's a part of that"

We're not seeing them crush the testicles of teenaged boys in detention centers, but it is reportedly happening.
What if we did not have those videos? How many Americans would have believed this? Or given the Administration the benefit of the doubt?

This raises another — and rather urgent — question.

What else is happening that we are not seeing on camera?

The trump administration walk back today is remarkable… and way overdue. What they’ve unleashed on Minnesota is grotesque.
ABC: Noem said Pretti committed an act of domestic terrorism. Stephen Miller labeled him a domestic terrorist. Does the president agree?

"Point of contact" is a deliberately lawyerly phrasing because Homan's current position is the made-up title of "Border Czar" within the Executive Office of the President, i.e. White House staff. He has no authority to directly run anything under DHS / ICE / CBP.
Leavitt throws Bovino under the bus: "Mr Bovino is a wonderful man and he's a great professional. He is very much going to continue CBP throughout and across the country. Mr Homan will be the main point of contact on the ground in Minneapolis"

This was an uphill battle for the state of Minnesota — but Pam Bondi's letter may have turned it into a viable one, if not today, down the line.

I see a criticism of Judge Menendez already, but her ability to constrain federal law enforcement is questionable at best. The 8th Cir. is not going to go out of their way to block ICE in MN. She’s asking tough questions. I think her power here is very limited and folks should be prepared for that.

Folks need to understand that at current rates it will take ICE 11+ years of this kind of sustained activity to remove all the undocumented immigrants in the US. That what Trump-Vance-Miller are doing is putting into place is a permanent national terror force that will last for at least a decade.
Cathy Young: “It has become clear that Donald Trump’s mass-deportation regime cannot be sustained without a repressive state machinery that endangers the lives and tramples the rights of legal residents and citizens of the United States, just as critics had been warning.”
