Thiessen having a good chuckle about his fired liberal colleagues - some of whom he worked with for 15 years - is a good reminder that token conservatives at mainstream news outlets are/were there to destroy them, not to contribute to them.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with your analysis. I'm sure the economic component is a factor, but I tend to think people are more motivated by psychological need than economic need

Autism Moms(tm) are like this as well. "The child I have received is not the child I wanted or expected, someone or something must be at fault"
It's basically a demand to speak to the manager of human developmental biology

Most extreme case is Elon. All his kids were conceived with sex selective ivf- literally assigned male - so when his trans daughter came out it melted his brain, because he didn't *design* her with that in mind
statesongxprt.bsky.social
It's the same as a lot of the trans kid stuff. Some parents think they own their kid and should be able to control everything about their kid.
When of course a child is a human being.

I don’t exactly how to phrase this, but like… is autism that bad???? Like, why is it such a source of fear??? Of course there are challenges but you can be autistic and have a rich, fulfilling life! Many people do! I don’t understand the preoccupation.

If you can believe it, this indictment is even more thin than their indictment of Comey. It was reported that this entire thing hinges on an incorrectly filled out form *that wasnt even actually submitted for the mortgage application*

If this stuff would end up on the news it would absolutely motivate voters. Plenty of people who don't give a shit about politics would absolutely give af about this.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

while I acknowledge that LLMs do have some uses for stuff like “producing code with knowledgeable human supervision,” this perfectly reflects how I feel about using it for my own creative work

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

I keep learning the lesson “Maybe I’m too hard on myself and I’m actually doing ok.”

I need it to be repeated some more but at least it sticks for a few seconds now.

the fiction stuff is interesting, i've encountered a number of friendly acquaintances in "let's chat about TV" type spaces who have a full on political belief that subtext is bad. fiction needs to have clear morality that must be told explicitly to the audience. stop the show and turn to camera
