Today I said I was frustrated because I hadn't seen my headphones in days and could not for the life of me remember what I did with them. My almost-4-yo piped up that she knew where they were. She reminded me I had dropped them between the car seats on Friday coming home from school. She was right.

All thirteen of my chapters for the second edition of "Observability Engineering" are now drafted to satisfaction.
The first half is already in the hands of tech reviewers, and the second half should be to O'Reilly by Jan 30th. Just doing a read thru and cleanup, interstitials, stick art and stuff.

Yesterday I played soccer for the first time since October 2024. It poured rain, we got our asses handed to us, and it was so much fun. It was so good to play with my team again.

These are concentration camps. No other way to describe them. Truly horrific, and none of it surprising in the least.
30 minutes. Some deportees described sexual assault. Detainee describes the guard sexually assaulting most detainees. Lights left on all day. Prisoners not given clean water.
Now the DHS tour. Nobody spoke to the detainees. Noem's video was in a different area of the prison.

Just spent a ton of time trying to get a problem solved with American Airlines. My mother is visiting for a week to help with childcare before our nanny starts in January. When she went to check in, it couldn't find her trip.

this is also uh, why i found the fact that NSA had so many queer employees unsurprising, but to the new right/NatCons, it's basically a mystery why so many elite developers are in the queer community
The infosec guys at Google are the most left wing people I have ever worked with (except for a few crypto bros). Groups that value diversity, more lgbtq than most groups, and politically active. (My team after working in infosec didn't care about DEI nearly as much)

The president of the United States has called for the trial and execution of members of Congress in a manner that would make Charles I blush.
As a constitutional matter, I fail to see where there is room for reasonable disagreement about what happened yesterday.

I'm at the point where my kid does not need a nap but daycare sometimes lets her nap and so it is 10:23 and we have been fighting bedtime for 2 hours.

I was pretty skeptical about AI in observability. but 277 teams have run nearly 4,500 investigations with @honeycomb.io's Canvas since our beta, and it's actually... good?
What convinced me: I've been at Honeycomb almost 7 years and Canvas has taught me things about our own systems I didn't know.

I left Google nearly 2.5 years ago and I still miss MOMA searching. I still have big love for multiple internal tooling teams.
