In honour of Rob Reiner, have David Moore's thread on the best sword fight in movie history and exactly how nerdy it is.
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

Incredible gif from the nyc dept of health.

"Sure, you can look for health guidance on the CDC website. You can also buy sushi at the gas station. We don't recommend either."
Brutal but effective public health messaging from New York Public Health.

The CDC is compromised. They’re no longer a reliable source of information.

They push anti-vaxx & anti-science grift.

Get your vaccines. Wear a respirator. Clean the air

Get public health advice from experts, not RFK Jr

Speaking as a very small business if I detect AI being used in your comics I will 100% accept the order, let you have it on credit, and deliberately do nothing with it so you miss your deadline.
Stunned we haven't seen the rise of "anti-AI" businesses.

Media outlets that promise human reporting and authorship.

Shopping sites that promise human curation.

Art sites that promise human creation.

"How do I avoid slop?" is gonna be a defining question in 2026. Businesses should answer it.

You can tell the libertarians who got there via genuinely held principle because they’re not libertarians anymore.
Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

I'll just say again that any D who is not committed to expanding the court is not actually committed to...anything.

no change is possible in a country where the supreme legislative body is a supermajority of robed christofascist hacks.

This is also why there are so many more Gen X and Millennial Republican politicians than Democrats or farther left.

There's big money in right wing grift, and it's easy to get that money if you want to run on those platforms.
This is one of those things that rarely gets talked about that has had a massive effect.

As fields like journalism, art, and academia were collapsed and living expenses skyrocketed they came to skew increasingly toward people whose families could afford to supplement their income.
If you're ever wondered why journalists seem so out of touch most of the time it's because in order to establish yourself you need to either come from money, marry into money, or be OK with abject poverty and daily financial panic

That third thing is unsustainable long-term

This.

Publicize what these people said.

Publicize that they asked soldiers to abide by the Constitution and disobey illegal commands.

The meaning of what's happening with these demands from DJT needs to be crystal clear.

Republicans who pretend to be concerned about political violence when their culture of political violence splashes back on them need to be loudly shouted down and chased out of the public square.
BREAKING:

Sen. Elissa Slotkin says police responded to her home tonight in response to a bomb threat. Slotkin wasn't at home at the time.

This is two days after Trump said Slotkin and other Democrats committed "seditious conspiracy, punishable by death."

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

A few weeks ago I was talking politics with a local, highly straight, bartender.

All the sudden he said: “Well, I think a big part of the problem is that so many of the people who would’ve been our progressive leaders died of AIDS & can’t help us now.”

And I’ve thought about that every day since.

This is why I am so vehemently down on people scaremongering the trans community. The assault on the trans community is one on our dignity, trying to drive us to suicide. Scaremongering does their work for them.

Repeat after me: I am too punk to kill myself when my government wants me to.
In the case of trans people, I think most of this Administration would be plenty happy if they drove us to suicide or to voluntarily detransition. They're lazy, they're focused on optics and le epic owns, and even where they are marshalling state capacity (ICE, et al) they're at a breaking point.

Yeah, why bother shutting it down if this is your exit strategy? Trump was losing. He looked awful, slashing food stamps for the sake of it while building that stupid ballroom for his Great Gatsby parties. And now the Dems just hand him a win. Fucking pathetic even for them.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
