So a while back I was commissioned to do short bios of various rock stars, and they were just about universally total psychopaths, with the huge exception of Freddie Mercury. A lovely man who did good by his wife, his lovers, and his cats.
Today (24 November) marks the passing of Freddie Mercury, lead vocalist and pianist of the rock band Queen. He remains regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that the weakest part of any cryptographic protocol is the key management.

Oops. Cryptographers cancel election results after losing decryption key.
Voting system required three keys. One of them has been “irretrievably lost.”…

It is very clear the gutting of Teen Vogue is about silencing their excellent political coverage. Corporations want you uninformed and shut off from meaningful journalism. And they’re staggeringly successful at it so far.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Loosely related: my daughter was putting "Created without any AI use." as the final sentence on all her university essays throughout her studies. Once she got an explicit assignment to produce an essay with AI "help", so instead she handed in one on dangers of using it. (Hell yeah, I'm proud.)
State of information in legacy 'news':

Reading a story and thinking,"hey, this is great, I want to share this!" then finding this under the last line:

"Produced with the assistance of a news-analysis system."

Translation: "Made with GenAI/LLMs; it may be true or false, it's on you to fact check."

I cancelled my Spotify subscription years ago when they platformed Joe Rogan and haven’t looked back since. But if I didn’t then I definitely would now.
Spotify customer service is immediately ending conversations if you ask about them airing ICE advertisements on the platform.

Cancel your Spotify subscription.

The most 2025 novel of 2025.
7 years ago journalist Rhys punched his MAGA son in law at Thanksgiving. Then he went off grid. Now his grandkids show up needing help.
What comes next is a wild ride: a road trip, guns, and Rhys trying to figure out cell phones. This book is ALIVE. #books #booksky

This is just the plastic straw hysteria all over again, and it's ableism at its finest: Blame disabled people instead of the corporations that are actually wrecking our environment, that way to poor widdle CEOs won't have to deal with people telling them to fucking STOP KILLING THE PLANET.
As somebody with asthma who uses inhalers - SHUT THE FUCK UP. THIS ARTICLE IS SHAMING PEOPLE WITH A CHRONIC CONDITION.

"Significantly" My ass. You know what else does? AI Data centers - corporations - cows - asphalt - THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THINGS THAT ARE NOT MEDICINE.

Fuck you - fuck you again.
Inhalers contribute significantly to global warming, study finds
Millions of Americans using inhalers for chronic lung diseases like asthma may be unknowingly contributing to global warming, according to new research.
