Canadians have been voting for cooperation, not domination.

Minority governments are here to stay, so why not build an electoral system that makes them work?

Proportional representation is the path to stable, collaborative politics.

#cdnpoli
A Policy Options article titled “Adapting to minority governments: Canada’s new normal” shows the Canadian Parliament chamber filled with MPs. The headline argues that stability won’t come from unlikely majorities but from institutions that can function with fragmented power. The text emphasizes that voters have consistently supported multi-party democracy and minority governments, yet politicians have failed to adapt. It concludes that Canada must reform parliamentary practices and consider proportional representation to make this new political reality work.

There is no clearer example of the utter bankruptcy of canadian media, than covering automatic tax filing for low income canadians by platforming the whining of the 4 assholes at the canadian taxpayers federation.

PP and the Cons showing pure hypocrisy during question period - no surprise. Their election platform had them running deficits until 2029 - and here they are demanding when the government is going to balance the books? How about we get through this generational change in trade first eh? #cdnpoli

Here's a little more information. The article is advocating for keeping the original 88 plane deal - which I don't agree with, but it does outline some of those companies and logistics involved.

I think the F-35 deal does include quite a lot of supply chain work here in Canada in our aerospace sector. "at various times more than 110 Canadian firms have participated in the F-35 supply chain". But I do agree we need some measure of our manufacturing sovereignty returned, hence the Gripens.
tech15.bsky.social
Thanks for the reply. Geopolitically, cancelling would likely be a bad signal and bad idea. The planes are extremely capable, and we've already committed to buy 16. Getting 32 would allow 2 squadrons (based in both Western and Eastern Canada). Adding the Gripons gives Canada massive options.
tech15.bsky.social
Interesting report here. Perhaps let's buy 32 or so F-35's (they are, after all, still remarkable planes - and many geopolitical reasons to increase our existing commitment of 16 to 32), but then buy 100 or so Gripens - and build them in Canada. #cdnpoli

Terrible messaging, both to US trade negotiators and to Canadians.

We should ABSOLUTELY be cancelling the other 72 aircraft that we haven't already committed to paying for, take delivery of the 16 we've committed to, and then buy 80 Saab Gripens. Major military purchases should be between ALLIES.

Hi Premier Smith, great comparison here for you. Alberta squandered a once in a million years opportunity. A spoiled attitude within confederation has lost Lougheed’s truly conservative Heritage path way to its leaders’ greed, Fed bashing and social extremism.

You’re welcome.

I agree we need to aggressively drive towards renewables. However, there will still be a market and need for petrochemicals for decades. Shutting it down would doom Alberta. They need time to pivot. Should've started decades ago but the Oil and Gas interests are allowed to sow disinformation.
tech15.bsky.social
Thanks for your reply. Peak oil is a moving target, so your guess is as good as mine I suppose. But peak doesn't mean zero. And losing value doesn't mean no value. Likely a few decades worth of profits to be had from petrochemical production yet.

We stand with Alberta teachers.

With students & families.

For better than the lowest funding per student in all of Canada.

It’s time the UCP steps up with a deal that supports smaller classes, safer classrooms, better supports, & fair compensation for teachers.

Better is possible. #abpoli
