This will tip a number of universities into crisis. I'm sure we are all glad the banking sector has been spared further tax increases, and fuel duty has been *cut* despite the climate emergency.

The government’s stated number one goal is growth.

Its actual number one goal is scrabbling together enough money to meet the fiscal rules while trying not to actually make any tough decisions or piss anyone off. It is not very good at that goal, not least because it’s a stupid one.
If the Government do go ahead with the mooted plan in here to (effectively) remove workplace pensions from salary sacrifice schemes I am genuinely a little in awe of how bad their "growth strategy is."

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

Now: oh, that WAS the future
the actual suicide of the West will be combining a rapidly aging population with hostility to migrants. however we must give credit to East Asia, especially Japan, for pioneering this model.

This is illiterate policy. For the policy to have a clear rationale, it needs to apply to all vehicles, with rates staggered by weight class and fuel economy. It's then also a way of clawing back the indirect subsidy to drivers over the past 15 years through constant deferral of fuel duty rises.

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

This is why “listening” isn’t reducible to something like “resonance” or even “sympathy.” The necessary conditions for feeling heard go include doing something with what is heard beyond echoing to responding and acting on it.

Several Tory MPs are unhappy at language of Katie Lam, a junior whip, saying mass deportations of 2-3m+ needed to make Britain "more culturally coherent" (ie, fewer nonwhite migrants) but "not entirely" (ie,some of those she can't deport won't integrate: Muslims)

As Lacan would say, they are enjoying their symptom.
People who are generally upset with how their lives are going, and also feel there are too many people around who look different, can never actually be appeased.

Not by Brexit, not by eliminating FoM, not by new taxes or fees, not by ending ILR, not by denaturalizing not by anything.

To be absolutely clear, it is impossible to vote for a party that cannot bring itself to unequivocally defend the rights of people living and working legally in this country. Because arbitrary removal of legal rights, or sudden varying of terms, for some is ultimately a threat to everyone.

A very interesting thread that shows how labour regulation is not only a matter of law, but also a matter of enforcement and sanction. The UK has shown itself to be systematically negligent on this, leading to a free-for-all for unscrupulous employers.

In light of all the ruckus around Maccabi and Villa, let's remember what happened in Amsterdam. Ultras came to the city looking for a scrap, found it with some street youths, police had to intervene. Same old story. The difference was a foreign government using it as a propaganda wedge issue.
