President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week directing the government to find faster treatments for pediatric cancer using artificial intelligence, but Climatewire’s Ariel Wittenberg reports the administration is simultaneously repealing regulations that could prevent cancer in Americans to begin with.

How’s that? It’s estimated that regulations of bromide and carcinogen emissions would avoid almost 100 cases of bladder cancer and lower the rate of people at increased risk of air toxic-related cancer, according to Environmental Protection Agency documents and analyses. The Trump administration has weakened, canceled or delayed such regulations.

What does the administration say? Administration officials backed repealing the regulations, citing the need to increase electricity that can power AI data centers, which are used to look for cancer cures.

The weirdest thing about all of this to me is that no one seems to actually believe it. If there were major cities in this dire of a state I feel like people would be talking about it. There’d be benefit concerts. There’d be literally anything else.
