P1: a cartoon me, sat at a table --with a blank sheet of paper and a pencil on its surface-- grimacing in pain as he clutches his right wrist. Thinking to himself, he says "AUGH! My drawing hand hurts! Don't think I'll be able to draw a comic toda--"

P2: APPEAR! Suddenly, a larger and far more crudely drawn version of my cartoon self appears on the right. He has a big doofy grin onhis face. Original cartoon me, in shock, says "GASP! W-who --WHAT-- are you?"

P3: Via an equally crudely drawn (and written) speech bubble and text, crude cartoon me says "I'm you when you stop giving a shite about drawing well"

P4: Suddenly, original cartoon me gets transformed into a crudely drawn form. The other crude self finishes on "in my imperfection I am perfect in every way"

Fanatic is a comic about a woman obsessed with a comic. Ellis read an article about a woman who would post her chapters online, and determine what she should write next based on the feedback... The book is about the parasocial relationship between creators and fans, and what it's like to be a fan.

SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.

Damn, encountering Mononoke fanart in the wild like this is surprising.

This is great design that definitely fits the style of that series and I really like the colour choices here as well as the colour blocking.
