When I was a lawyer for the gov’ment the rule was if I even so much as displayed my badge to an arresting officer I would be fired for trying to curry favor, but I can see why a guy doing obscure administrative hearings would be held to a higher standard than an armed agent of the state.
Telling the cops to call your supervisor isn’t the most shocking thing in this but JFC for most people you don’t really want your employer finding out about possible DUIs
An ICE agent, who is being arrested for drunk driving and nearly killing his little kids & others, tries to stop the arrest by racially profiling the officers arresting him. Amazing to watch the courtesy given to him as he is belligerent and uncooperative

Absolutely crazy to me that Alfred Crosby made the most important historical insight of the 20th century and then Jared Diamond wrote a pop history book ripping him off and got all the credit. It’s like if instead of Einstein we all talked about the reporter who broke the story of his anus mirabilis
A thing I think doesn't get internalized enough in the discourse of the European subjugation of the Americas is that there was no way for contact between Europe and those continents to not end in abject disaster for indigenous Americans because of disease burden.

One of the things that doesn't come out in the soundbites but does in the full speech is Hegseth's repeated, explicit emphasis on viewing problems from the perspective of an E-6 or O-3, wholly unaware (as a bad O-4) that the job of the 0-7s to O-10s in front of him is quite different.
One of the challenges in trying to write something about Hegseth's speech at The Quantico Disgrace is you have to listen to the whole speech but it is very difficult to listen so much and not have the style of speech bleed into your writing and you *really* don't want to write like Hegseth talks.

My hot take is you see a lot of people saying “you should vote for the Democrat in 2028 no matter who they are” because you should vote for the Democrat in 2028 no matter who they are.
🧵: I'm not posting this to dunk, but because I'm seeing it often enough it looks like a coordinated campaign, and I want to give folks a heads up on some of this, if they're not familiar the dynamics. It's about the broader pattern, but comes back to the idea of dividing the Democratic Party. 1/x

I’m the furthest from a Trump fan. But the reality is that he would have to shake very hard to equate to the shakedowns of the unrealized cap gains tax and warren’s tax that were proposed.
